  • Surround yourself with people who inspire you to keep going.
  • Sometimes you have to make yourself uncomfortable to grow. Stay focused and go for it! It’s worth it in the end.
  • If you’re uncomfortable being visible online, explore, look for opportunities, take small actions that will get you out there.
  • Make connections with people outside your inner circle. Get involved in conversations in Facebook groups that you join (not necessarily related to your business). Let people know what you do and how you do it so you can become known for what you do
  • Find alternative ways to reach your people – move your business online, do online courses, etc.

Self-Confidence Tips:

  • Do Lives on social media so people can get to know you and you get more comfortable with video.
  • Little steps lead to big things. For example, if doing videos feels uncomfortable, ease into it by doing short video clips until you feel more confident. <– Hot tip!
  • Get out of your head and focus on who you are helping, rather than on yourself.
  • Don’t compare yourself to others. Be yourself and own that.
  • Once you have built an audience, you can offer paid classes via Zoom (or similar).
  • Even if attendance for your first online course is small, you can repeat the same content over and over as your audience grows.

Pro Makeup Application Tips:

  • Start With Skin Care:
    • Skin is the most important step to achieve a flawless face. Your skin needs to be smooth and plumped before you apply makeup.
    • Gently massage your facial moisturizer into your skin to get it ready for makeup. Massage will trigger a collagen boost in your skin and improve the appearance.  <– Tune in for the full conversation on how to do this and why!
    • Your undereye is the most delicate skin on your face. Touch that area as little and as gently as possible.
    • Know your skin type. Whatever your type, there’s a good moisturizer out there for you.
    • If you have oily skin, get an oil-free or oil-control moisturizer. For dry skin, look for rich moisturizers that hydrate your skin.
    • Use a primer to stop foundation from breaking on your skin. For dry skin, choose a glowy primer.
  • Tips for Great Foundation:
    • The most important thing for foundation is to get the right shade.
    • Look for a perfect color that matches the skin of your neck (not your face) as closely as possible. <– Pro tip! Tune in for all the details. 
    • A little bit of foundation goes a long way. For a flawless natural look, just start with a little and work up from there.
    • Start in the middle of your face and work your way outward.
    • Target problematic areas and use less makeup on the areas that don’t need it.
    • Use concealer AFTER foundation or you will probably use too much. Get your foundation right FIRST, then go in with concealer where needed. <– Pro tip!
  • Contour & Highlight Tips:
    • Don’t be afraid of contouring and highlighting. You just need to learn how to do it.
    • Start with powder products (instead of cream) when you first begin – bronzer and highlighter.
    • Choose a bronzer 1 shade darker than your skin. If you want it more pronounced, go 2 shades darker – never more than that. <– Pro tip!
    • Bronzer warms the face and adds structure. Create a number 3 on your face: Start at your forehead near the hairline in a circular motion, then your cheek bone, then the jawline.
    • User highlighter on top of your cheekbone. Use your finger or a brush to tap it on and blend it out. Highlighter gives your whole face a lift.

And the only way to be truly satisfied is to do

what you believe is great work.

don't settle as with all matters of heart.

I think specifically for people who are listening to Beverly is

that there are so many people out there who make something

and they love doing it and they keep thinking about maybe

monetizing it and they're hesitant to do so.

And they're at a nine to five that they need to

Speaker:

do for money and maybe they even like it,

but there's just something else,

Speaker:

some other inner desire that they have that they want to

Speaker:

act on.

Speaker:

And that's what kept coming up to me.

As you were reading that,

Yes, I,

Speaker:

you know what,

Speaker:

I'm actually in that space as well that you just described,

it's all about doing the nine to five.

Speaker:

You just have to keep the family going,

Speaker:

don't you,

Speaker:

but there's something in there that's,

Speaker:

you know,

this is your calling.

Speaker:

This is what you're meant to be doing,

Speaker:

but opportunities around you may not give you the chance to

Speaker:

do it just yet,

Speaker:

but don't give up,

Speaker:

just keep going until you're able to achieve that Or get

Speaker:

started in a little way.

Speaker:

Maybe it's even just research or seeing what you would do,

Speaker:

like even developing the plan so that when the time does

Speaker:

become available,

Speaker:

here's the first steps that I would do.

Speaker:

So you're kind of starting to work,

Speaker:

but you're not really going all in yet.

Speaker:

That's so true.

Speaker:

Lots of different ways.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

I was just on speaking of clubhouse,

Speaker:

I actually was hosting a room and the conversation led to

Speaker:

this wasn't the room that you were in with me.

Speaker:

I don't think.

Speaker:

But the conversation led to,

Speaker:

should you just jump in two feet,

Speaker:

cold water,

Speaker:

quit your job and just dive right in.

Speaker:

Or should you ramp it up gradually?

Speaker:

And there were several of us who had different views on

Speaker:

that. And so we did some conversation back and forth of

Speaker:

the pros and cons.

Speaker:

And I don't think there's one right way.

Speaker:

I think it spaced on your personality,

Speaker:

your situation,

Speaker:

what your comfort level is like.

Speaker:

There's so many things.

Speaker:

So there isn't one way or another.

Speaker:

The point is if you have that in you,

Speaker:

that you should,

Speaker:

at some point or start working large or small and start

Speaker:

bringing it out.

Speaker:

Exactly. I think another thing as well is just surrounding yourself

Speaker:

with people that would motivate you,

Speaker:

that will inspire you to keep going.

Speaker:

Because there are people around us who they are probably working

Speaker:

towards. They want,

Speaker:

and they haven't gotten there yet.

Speaker:

There things that we could learn from them,

Speaker:

tips of how,

Speaker:

okay, how did you manage to take this little steps and

Speaker:

what has it led to?

Speaker:

So those people would encourage us.

Speaker:

They would uplift us.

Speaker:

They wants to see us win.

Speaker:

So I would definitely encourage surrounding yourself with people that would

Speaker:

encourage you to achieve those goals.

Speaker:

If you really have it in you to do Yes.

Speaker:

I love that.

Speaker:

We're so affected by those that we surround ourself with.

Speaker:

For sure.

Speaker:

Yeah. Well,

Speaker:

speaking of that,

Speaker:

let's talk about how you got started.

Speaker:

What led you on this path to where you are?

Speaker:

I guess my love for makeup is all starts with makeup.

Speaker:

Doesn't it?

Speaker:

Cause that's where my love is.

Speaker:

And it's started from an early age,

Speaker:

to be honest,

Speaker:

when I would watch my mom,

Speaker:

by the way,

Speaker:

my mom is such a beautiful woman as an inside out.

Speaker:

So she would wear her makeup.

Speaker:

She wears it very subtle.

Speaker:

You can see that she has something on,

Speaker:

but not overly done.

Speaker:

And that is where my love for flawless,

Speaker:

like natural makeup developed.

Speaker:

And I remember always thinking into that room to grab some

Speaker:

makeup and then to put on.

Speaker:

And one day she actually caught me in action and she

Speaker:

said, what are you doing now?

Speaker:

So this is an African home background.

Speaker:

So with you don't touch your parents' stuff.

Speaker:

And then,

Speaker:

so she was like,

Speaker:

what are you doing in my room?

Speaker:

And I went,

Speaker:

Oh, I'm so sorry.

Speaker:

I just wanted to put some makeup on.

Speaker:

She was shift fled.

Speaker:

She wasn't having it with me because her baby's growing up.

Speaker:

I know exactly why she doesn't want that.

Speaker:

She doesn't want me to draw that attention because I loved

Speaker:

the way I felt.

Speaker:

I felt applying the makeup.

Speaker:

I love the way I looked.

Speaker:

So everything has thought,

Speaker:

Oh my goodness.

Speaker:

So makeup can actually make you look prettier.

Speaker:

So yeah,

Speaker:

that was where the love started.

Speaker:

And like I said,

Speaker:

my mom inspired me,

Speaker:

but then getting into adulthood now,

Speaker:

I wasn't allowed to pursue that because that love was strong

Speaker:

then, but I wasn't allowed to pursue that because it wasn't

Speaker:

seen as a career.

Speaker:

So I had to go to university.

Speaker:

I actually studied computer science education,

Speaker:

but I hated it.

Speaker:

So only when I became a mom have my own family,

Speaker:

I thought I have this content.

Speaker:

I've always wanted to do it and I will do it.

Speaker:

Now. Nobody can tell me that you cannot pursue,

Speaker:

make a sick area.

Speaker:

That was how I started.

Speaker:

I actually dipped into Mary Kay cosmetics.

Speaker:

I don't know if you're familiar with that.

Speaker:

Yes I am.

Speaker:

And I'm sure a lot of our listeners here are,

Speaker:

or they've at least heard of it.

Speaker:

Yes. Yeah.

Speaker:

Yes. So I started that.

Speaker:

I was introduced,

Speaker:

I started a savings dependent beauty consultants with them and that

Speaker:

was fine.

Speaker:

I did it for a couple of years,

Speaker:

but I wanted more.

Speaker:

And then at a point I said to my husband,

Speaker:

I need to go to school for makeup artistry just to

Speaker:

improve on my skills and to be able to serve people

Speaker:

better because I think quality of work makes a huge difference.

Speaker:

So because with Mary Kay,

Speaker:

it's more of the selling of the makeup.

Speaker:

They don't really teach you those skills for you to become

Speaker:

a professional makeup artist,

Speaker:

Right? Because their focus is you selling their product.

Speaker:

And now you're thinking,

Speaker:

how am I going to build this around a business,

Speaker:

possibly my own makeup even.

Speaker:

Right. That's it exactly.

Speaker:

Yeah. So even though I'm doing that,

Speaker:

but I'm still looking at opportunities for me to grow in

Speaker:

my own field,

Speaker:

not just selling someone else's products because eventually a long-term goal

Speaker:

is to own mine.

Speaker:

So that was how I went into a beauty school,

Speaker:

did call some makeup artistry and that was quite good.

Speaker:

It's once a six months program that I did it wasn't

Speaker:

easy during the time because commuting,

Speaker:

I lived in a different state.

Speaker:

So commuting to where I do the cause I would usually

Speaker:

spend a weekend there.

Speaker:

And I had my little girl,

Speaker:

she was just about six months then.

Speaker:

So I had to take her with me and my husband

Speaker:

sometimes come with me.

Speaker:

So if I,

Speaker:

it was worth it in the end.

Speaker:

So that goes to show.

Speaker:

Sometimes you have to make yourself uncomfortable,

Speaker:

but as long as you are focused,

Speaker:

you know what you want go for it.

Speaker:

So I did that finished that cause was good.

Speaker:

And I managed to get some jobs with its working on

Speaker:

makeup counters,

Speaker:

but then it comes back again.

Speaker:

Doesn't need to sell in other people's products and I'm quite

Speaker:

good at it.

Speaker:

But then just as time goes on,

Speaker:

I say to myself,

Speaker:

I need to do better.

Speaker:

I need to do more towards me towards seven myself and

Speaker:

seven people who I'm called to save.

Speaker:

And yeah.

Speaker:

So freelancing now I had to pick up on that and

Speaker:

it's been going well,

Speaker:

Wonderful. I love the whole evolution.

Speaker:

And I don't think that it's bad that you saw the

Speaker:

industry from different angles,

Speaker:

like selling Mary Kay for a while and then even working

Speaker:

behind the counters.

Speaker:

Cause you're getting information about the industry that I'm sure there

Speaker:

are tips and things and just knowledge that you don't even

Speaker:

yet pull up.

Speaker:

But just at some point in time,

Speaker:

you'll be like,

Speaker:

I remember something that happened.

Speaker:

And so it'll be applicable.

Speaker:

Absolutely. So Beverly Share with us today,

what you're offering out to the world in terms of beauty,

Speaker:

where you're sitting right today.

Speaker:

Okay. So currently I'm seating on feel empowering women,

Speaker:

which is one of my values,

Speaker:

one of the values of my business and powering women.

Speaker:

And the best way I know to it at this moment

Speaker:

is to teach them how to.

Speaker:

So once you teach someone,

Speaker:

they are able to go ahead and do it by themselves

Speaker:

and not having to rely on someone else to do it

Speaker:

for them.

Speaker:

So having said that I run online classes and to teach

Speaker:

everyday women how to do her own makeup.

Speaker:

I am do that flawlessly.

Speaker:

And so I have step-by-step guide on how that's,

Speaker:

how my classes are positioned.

Speaker:

I love what you talk about with empowering women.

Speaker:

That is amazing because I think so many times,

Speaker:

and I actually have a niece who is very into makeup

Speaker:

artistry and she's focused on wanting to be a makeup artist

Speaker:

to the stars.

Speaker:

That's her goal.

Speaker:

So with that,

it's the beauty or maybe makeup that's going to fit a

Speaker:

role or those exotic,

Speaker:

like making someone to look like a lion or,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

whatever it is.

You've niched yourself into a different area,

which is makeup to empower women.

Speaker:

And when you were talking earlier about when you snuck into

Speaker:

your mom's room,

Speaker:

that's so fun.

Speaker:

And when you wear makeup,

Speaker:

how you feel beautiful outside,

Speaker:

which also helps you act more confidently from the inside.

Exactly. And so that's what your all about.

That's like the niche within the industry,

if you will,

that your claiming,

which is fabulous,

this makes sense because here people will go to makeup counters

and there's the chairs there.

Speaker:

This is maybe even what you were doing,

where you sit down and someone will show you how to

use the product.

It's all still focused on selling the product.

Right. And then they'll put it on you and they'll,

and they'll give you a little,

some tips for application.

So face to face.

Speaker:

That makes sense.

And so you do that with people too,

not at a makeup counter,

Speaker:

but yourself,

Speaker:

but then talk about how you made this transition and what

Speaker:

you were doing to take it online.

Speaker:

And the reason why I want to dive into this in

particular is there are a lot of makers who are listening

here who crochet or do bead at work or whatever crafted

is. And there is potential for everybody to take what they

Speaker:

know in their own way,

Speaker:

with their own little tips and tricks and bring it online

Speaker:

in some type of a training like you're talking about.

Speaker:

So let's dive into that.

Speaker:

So where did you get the idea to do this?

Speaker:

So The idea actually came from,

I guess,

with COVID his and everyone really bad.

Speaker:

And yeah,

so I thought if I can't physically serve women who I

know meets this,

Speaker:

how can I,

Speaker:

so it's about exploring what other ways can I do that?

So obviously going online,

go in virtual is one of those ways that I'm able

to reach women.

Speaker:

And Sue is not just women in the UK women across

the globe.

So it's no win.

Speaker:

That's Vieira women out there that you can save,

even though they are not in the same cycle.

Speaker:

As you,

even though they are not in the same area,

as you going online,

Speaker:

reaching out to those people,

online, finding those ideas and ways to connect with other people

who you can save,

who will take value from whatever you're offering,

but connecting with them online.

That was,

what's moved me to want to take my business online.

And I have to tell you,

it has been so good.

And obviously there are different ways that true Instagram posts true,

very recently clubhouse,

but also just doing live connecting with like-minded people or women

Speaker:

outside my circle has helped me to push that out there

Speaker:

and also to be able to make those connections,

Speaker:

I would a hundred percent encourage anyone who can,

Speaker:

and sometimes there are setting challenges that could come with it.

Speaker:

If you're not comfortable with online virtual classes,

Speaker:

you have to show yourself some people are not comfortable bringing

Speaker:

themselves out in that way.

Speaker:

It takes a bit of practice.

Speaker:

It takes a bit of nudging,

Speaker:

but if it's there in you try,

Speaker:

just look for opportunities,

Speaker:

explore and do little things that would take you have them,

Speaker:

Okay. This is a huge obstacle with our listeners.

So this is going to be really helpful.

well, how am I going to do this?

How do you conduct your classes?

Speaker:

they couldn't make the class for some reason or the other,

but they didn't miss out much because they get replay from

They also get goodies that I offered in the class.

And there were a few other bonuses that I added in

skin. So that is what you want to look for.

Buds, look for oil control moisturizers,

because there's a lot out there.

Secondly, if you have dry skin,

you look for rich moisturizers that would hydrate as well as

moisturize your skin.

So whatever skin type you find yourself in there is a

face cream or moisturizer for you.

Perfect. All right,

Speaker:

wonderful. I just made this longer than you were saying.

Speaker:

I'll be nice and short and succinct.

Speaker:

And I just made this way longer by accident.

Speaker:

But if I have questions I just might pop in,

I might not be able to resist myself.

The next step of course would be to prime.

And then to lay your base with some foundation,

some heavy foundations,

have you covered foundations,

you may not necessarily need to apprise boards.

If it's a much finished foundation,

then I will say,

please do prime and also use good moisturizer underneath because that

will keep your skin hydrated for you through the day.

But if you have dry skin,

I would hundred percent encourage to prime with a glowy primer

because that will stop the foundation braking on your skin.

But it will also give you that nice glue.

And when it comes to foundation application,

this is so important for everybody's makeup style is different,

but for the style that I'm promoting,

which is a flawless,

natural base,

and little bit of foundation goes a long way.

You don't have to use the whole bottle of foundation for

you to get a flawless base.

I would say if you have problematic skin concentrate on the

areas that you feel that needs correcting,

Oh, you need to build on those are the areas and

leave the areas that you feel that doesn't really have much

in terms of what you needed to do for you.

Just work with what you have for people who have pretty,

always start from the middle of the face,

which is around the loos and work your way outward.

extra that to get it fuller or bigger brows it's not

necessary. So if you have naturally full brows,

just come be through with a brow gel for everything to

stay in place and to give it a nice shape.

But if you don't have naturally full brows,

you can still fill in your brows.

It's about that gentle motion of applying your brow product and

not going overboard with it.

it took forever to get off.

It didn't feel good.

Like, I felt like my skin couldn't even breathe,

Like I felt weighted down by it and I looked at

myself, I'm like,

this isn't even me,

so I totally can relate to what you're talking about there.

As we get older with our makeup routines and maybe how

Oh, so the best advice is less,

is more because from my experience of working on a makeup

counter, I have some gorgeous,

Speaker:

beautiful, mature ladies come in and they just want to look

themselves. They just wants to look beautiful without caking themselves up.

So the best thing I would do,

like I said,

Speaker:

initially is let them walk on the skin,

Speaker:

just get the skin right.

Speaker:

Once you get the skin,

Speaker:

right. Use less of foundation.

Speaker:

If you need concealer on any area,

Speaker:

apply a little bit of concealer on that area.

Speaker:

Less is more that may not necessarily have to use a

Speaker:

bronzer. If it's not India routine,

Speaker:

I would recommend it.

Speaker:

But it's not a must for me.

Speaker:

It must in make up for,

Speaker:

I would say probably more mature.

Speaker:

Ladies is skincare,

Speaker:

really nice,

Speaker:

soft base set with powder to make sure that it lasts

Speaker:

you all day because you don't have time to be touching

Speaker:

all the time.

And then just put some really good mascara to open up

the eyes.

Some nice lip gloss.

And that's it.

Oh, before I forget some,

maybe a blusher,

just a flush of color on the cheek because you don't

want to look in 'em all down.

So that's gifts in nice lifts on the cheek.

Blusher. I would highly recommend blusher.

I'm a do it in the morning and that's it,

girl. Whatever happens in the morning.

I don't even give it another thought one day.

Speaker:

I first put on my foundation and while we were talking,

I have like three or four different colors.

I do the same thing every time I love it because

it's easy and fast.

so that's what I do.

Then I come back to my face and I put primer

on and then my foundation and no bronze or anything,

I like a matte look,

not the dewy look.

So I put my foundation on.

Then I put my blush on.

Then I put powder all over.

Cause I feel like the powder also helps blend everything.

So there's no lines.

And then I put my mascara on last and then I

turn off that makeup mirror and I move on.

And how long does that take you to about seven minutes?

We tend to warm towards the pet colors because they bring

down our features more for Caucasian skin,

And I guess the overall look so it's all in colors

But having said that,

all colors can go for everyone is just deeper skin tones,
