This is a very different podcast than I have ever done. As you know, I’m the host of Gift Biz Unwrapped. I want to talk with you about some super crazy things that have been happening to me over the last four months. It’s beyond belief. I want to share with you because my experience can help you with your entrepreneural journey as well.

I had no idea when I stepped on this path, what I was getting into. It’s leading me in a totally different direction today and that’s what I want to tell you about.

Last week, I had the amazing opportunity to be part of Scope Pass Sunday. Let’s just say that the experience of being asked to be included in Scope Pass Sunday hit me.

“Wow!” It was a marker in the sand. A realization that … life has changed over the last four months. Things are different. The most exciting thing is it’s based on the moves that I made and the opportunities that I took advantage of that have allowed me to get to this point.

It’s valuable to share because by telling you about my experience, it can serve as an example for you. It will give you some new thinking and insight and thoughts on what you can do to also begin walking through an even more remarkable journey than you’re already on.

And I wanted to share what's been going on last week.

Sunday. And I'm going to talk about that a little bit

more as we go on.

So I'm not going to dwell on it right here,

but just that experience of being asked to be included in

scope S Sunday hit me.

Speaker:

It was like,

Speaker:

wow, it was kind of like a marker in the sand

for me of life has changed over the last four months.

Things are different.

Speaker:

And the most exciting thing is it's based on the moves

that I made and the opportunities that I took advantage of

that have allowed me to get to this point.

Speaker:

So I thought it would be valuable to share this with

Speaker:

you because by telling you about my experience and what I've

been learning along the way in these last four months could

Speaker:

be a great example for you and give you some new

Speaker:

thinking and insight and thoughts of what you can do in

Speaker:

your life to also begin walking and even more remarkable journey

than you already are.

For those of you who may not know me and are

new to my podcasts,

I have very recently also been going by the hashtag gift

I in my past life have worked with literally hundreds of

small boutique shops,

Speaker:

all the way up to some big brands that you would

know revolving around the whole retail.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

online spaces.

Speaker:

So I've worked with people on how to create a business

Speaker:

from the ground up,

Speaker:

what you should be naming your business,

Speaker:

where you should be,

Speaker:

or should you be online?

Speaker:

Should you be a retail shop,

Speaker:

how to get the word out,

Speaker:

how to get customers into your shop,

Speaker:

all that kind of thing.

Speaker:

And I worked with hundreds of people,

Speaker:

as I said in my corporate life,

Speaker:

since then,

Speaker:

I've also opened two successful businesses.

Speaker:

The one that is currently running is called the ribbon print

Speaker:

company. And I'm going to tell you about it just for

Speaker:

a second,

Speaker:

just so you have a feel for who I am.

Speaker:

The ribbon print company sells custom ribbon printing machines so that

Speaker:

people within the gifting baking and crafting spaces can custom print

Speaker:

ribbon and add more dollars to their bottom line.

Speaker:

And in doing this,

Speaker:

we go out to trade shows quite a bit,

Speaker:

and I've seen that a lot of people in this space

Speaker:

need to know more.

Speaker:

They're excellent at their craft.

Speaker:

They know how to make jewelry.

Speaker:

They're perfect at baking the most delicious exquisite cupcake,

Speaker:

but when they take those crafts that they have,

Speaker:

that they're so good at and try to turn them into

Speaker:

a business.

Speaker:

That's not where they expertise is.

Speaker:

And that is why I created this podcast in the first

Speaker:

place. And that's the type of information we're sharing with all

Speaker:

of you here.

Speaker:

And that's probably why you listen to capture that kind of

Speaker:

information for yourself.

Speaker:

But I know that there's even more that I can be

Speaker:

doing for the group at large.

Speaker:

And quite honestly,

Speaker:

those have been my plans as I've been moving forward.

Speaker:

But these last four months have just catapulted the opportunity for

Speaker:

me. And again,

Speaker:

I want to talk to you about what's happened.

Speaker:

My real story starts,

Speaker:

I think with the fact that I was very open.

Speaker:

I have the plan that I wanted to do.

Speaker:

I had no idea what was going to be happening,

Speaker:

but in my mind,

Speaker:

I knew where I was trying to go.

Speaker:

Okay. Now I'm one who really believes in the law of

Speaker:

attraction. I got to tell you,

Speaker:

I could tell you stories that would blow your mind,

Speaker:

but I just honestly believe that putting out into the environment,

Speaker:

your purpose and your intent,

Speaker:

and having a plan and being open to opportunities that might

Speaker:

come your way is crucial.

Speaker:

That's one of the reasons why at the end of all

Speaker:

of our podcasts,

Speaker:

I offer people a virtual gift for them to dare to

Speaker:

dream it's for just that reason,

Speaker:

the law of attraction.

Speaker:

So I enter all of this with that mindset,

and I've always been open to learning.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

I do like online courses,

Speaker:

podcasts, web versions of trainings,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

like I've gone to social media marketing world online,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

not in person,

Speaker:

but my whole story begins really on a Saturday in September,

Speaker:

I was on a scope with Sue B Zimmerman.

Speaker:

And you know,

Speaker:

she is,

Speaker:

if you don't know her,

Speaker:

she is the Instagram expert.

Speaker:

And I like to listen to scopes.

Speaker:

Many times I'll listen to them after they've been recorded.

Speaker:

But this particular day I was in my office.

Speaker:

It was a Saturday and I was able to listen to

Speaker:

her live.

Speaker:

And I was interacting in the comments section of the scope.

Speaker:

And Sue bee said,

Speaker:

well, listen,

Speaker:

if any of you are going to be in Chicago and

Speaker:

going into social,

Speaker:

boom, I am going to be doing a mastermind the very

Speaker:

next day.

Speaker:

And if you are in any way interested,

Speaker:

let me know and we can talk well within like a

Speaker:

half a second,

Speaker:

I put in the comment box,

Speaker:

yes, I'm interested.

Speaker:

How do I get in touch with you?

Speaker:

Crazy as it is?

Speaker:

She gave all of us,

Speaker:

not just me,

Speaker:

but she gave all of us,

Speaker:

her cell phone right on the scope.

Speaker:

Isn't that nuts.

Speaker:

So her cell phone opened to the world on a scope.

Speaker:

And I'm not kidding you within like two seconds after we

Speaker:

got off the scope,

Speaker:

I was calling her to talk with her about possibly doing

Speaker:

this mastermind to my surprise.

Speaker:

She actually answered the phone.

Speaker:

We had a long conversation.

Speaker:

I told her what was up with me in terms of

Speaker:

my business.

Speaker:

And I think automatically we could speak each other's language.

Speaker:

Suby has been in the craft world,

Speaker:

retail world for a long time.

Speaker:

And she grilled me,

Speaker:

I have to say,

Speaker:

because she wanted people here in that mastermind who were at

Speaker:

a certain level,

Speaker:

I think,

Speaker:

and I felt very honored when she said,

Speaker:

yeah, you're exactly the type of person I'd like to have.

Speaker:

She told me the price,

Speaker:

it wasn't cheap.

Speaker:

And I said,

Speaker:

yes, I'm absolutely in that kind of laid the groundwork for

Speaker:

what I call my miracle weekend.

Speaker:

That just started this last four months of craziness.

Speaker:

So in about the middle of September,

Speaker:

I attended social boom.

Speaker:

Now, for those of you who may not know what social

Speaker:

boom is,

Speaker:

this is a social media training weekend put on by Kim

Speaker:

Garst and her business partner,

Speaker:

Terry Williamson,

Speaker:

that happened to be in Chicago.

Speaker:

So it was somewhat of a no-brainer for me to go,

Speaker:

although I'm out traveling quite a bit.

Speaker:

So it was taking up yet one more weekend of time,

Speaker:

but I just didn't see how I could pass up the

Speaker:

opportunity if it was right here in Chicago.

Speaker:

So I went to social boom,

Speaker:

and I've got to say,

Speaker:

you guys write this down because it was such a fabulous

Speaker:

event. And actually now that I'm saying that I'm going to

Speaker:

be dropping a number of names of just people who have

Speaker:

affected me and that I have been able to rub shoulders

Speaker:

with these last four months and each and every one of

Speaker:

them is a rockstar in their own,

Speaker:

right? So pen and paper might be,

Speaker:

it might make sense for this,

Speaker:

but in any case,

Speaker:

the conference social boom that Kim Garst put on brought in

Speaker:

leaders in a number of different industries,

Speaker:

all revolving around social media,

Speaker:

a couple that I'll just pull out just by way of

Speaker:

example, peg Fitzpatrick talked about Pinterest,

Speaker:

but not just Pinterest Pinterest for business.

Speaker:

And that's a platform that I'm already on.

Speaker:

It was really good to hear new ideas,

Speaker:

new ways that I can make my Pinterest boards be more

Speaker:

and more valuable for our customers.

Speaker:

So that one was really great.

Speaker:

Vivica Von Rosen also was a rockstar.

Speaker:

She talked about LinkedIn.

Speaker:

And again,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

we all pretty much know what LinkedIn is about.

Speaker:

Some of us,

Speaker:

I think kind of think that,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

in the past it was just a place to go find

Speaker:

jobs, but it's a huge platform just for credibility.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

even if you're not going to totally interact all the time

Speaker:

on LinkedIn,

Speaker:

you absolutely should have a presence there,

Speaker:

but Vivica brought it one step further in terms of what

Speaker:

the value of that platform is and why you should be

Speaker:

using and interacting with it regularly for your business.

Speaker:

So that was awesome.

Speaker:

And then Ian Cleary also talked about email list building,

Speaker:

and again,

Speaker:

very important to your business.

Speaker:

I think a lot of us already understand that,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

you can be on every social media platform in the world.

Speaker:

You can have thousands and thousands or even hundreds of thousands

Speaker:

of followers.

Speaker:

But if there isn't some,

Speaker:

a way that you are capturing their emails and retaining that

Speaker:

in a place that you own,

Speaker:

all of that can be just washed away by Facebook's deciding

Speaker:

to change the rules or one social media platform that you're

Speaker:

really heavy on just falling by the wayside.

Speaker:

So you're very much at risk if you're not bringing people

Speaker:

back into your own email lists,

Speaker:

which is really what you control my takeaways from social boom.

Speaker:

And in terms of implications for you guys to think of

Speaker:

too, is I was there really confirming my social media strategies.

Speaker:

What was I doing that was already working?

Speaker:

And it just gave me a sense of all right,

Speaker:

so I've got this part figured out.

Speaker:

It also gave me exposure to new ways of using different

Speaker:

social media platforms.

Speaker:

So, you know,

Speaker:

I kind of had the basis down,

Speaker:

but I picked up some extra tips along the way.

Speaker:

Again, really,

Speaker:

really important.

Speaker:

Another thing with social boom,

Speaker:

the timing was perfect because Periscope's just coming out.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

Periscope's only been around at this point now,

Speaker:

I don't know,

Speaker:

eight or nine months and Kim Garst who put on social

Speaker:

boom is also the one who brought forth the very first

Speaker:

training program for social boom.

Speaker:

So just getting exposure to a new,

Speaker:

really significant social media platform was really important for me there.

Speaker:

So that was Saturday and Sunday of that weekend.

Speaker:

And then it followed up with Monday that one day mastermind

Speaker:

that Suby was talking about on her scope the week before.

Speaker:

So I was super excited about that coming out of social

Speaker:

boom already on a high,

Speaker:

just with of course a million notes of what I wanted

Speaker:

to implement,

Speaker:

but also just some real great comradery with people in the

Speaker:

audience. And,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

being able to start meeting some of the people that I

Speaker:

had been following online for so long,

Speaker:

it was just a real high.

Speaker:

And then we walked into the one day mastermind and it

Speaker:

was Sue B Zimmerman,

Speaker:

who I've already talked about the Instagram expert.

Speaker:

She's the one who really rallied this together.

Speaker:

And she also had Steve Dotto with her.

Speaker:

If you guys don't know Steve,

Speaker:

you need to follow him on YouTube.

Speaker:

His channel is called Datto tech and he is a tech

Speaker:

genius, whether it's Evernote,

Speaker:

YouTube, Google mail,

Speaker:

Google calendar,

Speaker:

all things Google,

Speaker:

I guess I could say he breaks it down into how

Speaker:

to use it,

Speaker:

the intricacies of the different platforms so that you can be

Speaker:

as efficient and functional as you can.

Speaker:

He's just spectacular.

Speaker:

So the two of them were putting on this mastermind on

Speaker:

Monday. Now there were only seven of us invited to be

Speaker:

there. And it was super special because you got a lot

Speaker:

of detailed focus.

Speaker:

And what we did is each of us was on the

Speaker:

quote unquote hot seat.

Speaker:

So it was a similar format to what we all might

Speaker:

recognize as a mastermind,

Speaker:

but it was only one day.

Speaker:

So this was a one-time thing.

Speaker:

And so each of us were on the hot seat.

Speaker:

We talked about our businesses.

Speaker:

We talked about challenges that we were presented with right at

Speaker:

that time.

Speaker:

And then all of us,

Speaker:

not just Steve and Sue B,

Speaker:

but we all got to comment and be exposed to each

Speaker:

other's businesses and what was going on,

Speaker:

the obstacles that they were facing.

Speaker:

And that was super interesting and a great learning,

Speaker:

I think for all of us,

Speaker:

because it wasn't just our issues we were looking at.

Speaker:

It was everybody's issues.

Speaker:

So just a really valuable wealth of information being shared back

Speaker:

and forth.

Speaker:

So I got on the hot seat pretty much.

Speaker:

I was either this,

Speaker:

I think it was,

Speaker:

I was the second to last one.

Speaker:

So people were getting a little bit tired,

Speaker:

but thank gosh for soupy and Steve,

Speaker:

cause they were still right on their game.

Speaker:

And we talked about my business and where I was trying

Speaker:

to go.

Speaker:

Because as I told you earlier,

Speaker:

I already knew where I wanted to take my business.

Speaker:

As I move forward.

Speaker:

A couple of things happened there that were really significant for

Speaker:

me. One of them came out of the mouth of Suby

Speaker:

and her comment was you need to fire yourself.

Speaker:

She says,

Speaker:

based on what you are trying to do and looking at

Speaker:

my social media and because I was really overwhelmed by everything

Speaker:

that I was trying to do,

Speaker:

I just didn't have it under control.

Speaker:

She's like,

Speaker:

well, yeah,

Speaker:

because you can't do everything yourself.

Speaker:

And no one had ever said that to me before.

Speaker:

And once she said it,

Speaker:

I'm like,

Speaker:

Oh my gosh,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

to have someone else really say that to me made so

Speaker:

much sense.

Speaker:

That was one takeaway.

Speaker:

The other thing that I did there was I had told

Speaker:

Suvi, I wanted to start getting on Periscope and she's like,

Speaker:

okay, well let's do it.

Speaker:

And I'm like,

Speaker:

what? Wait a minute.

Speaker:

What right now,

Speaker:

what? And she's like,

Speaker:

yeah. So we did,

Speaker:

I did my very first Periscope with her,

Speaker:

luckily because she could lead me and guide me and show

Speaker:

me right during that one mastermind.

Speaker:

So two really,

Speaker:

really significant things that happened for me that day.

Speaker:

The takeaways from there,

Speaker:

I think for everybody and just think about this in terms

Speaker:

of whether you can put yourself into situations like this is

Speaker:

another pair of eyes on your company,

Speaker:

to be able to review what you're doing is so valuable

Speaker:

that can come in the form of masterminds,

Speaker:

meet ups with people in your local community,

Speaker:

possibly through a chamber or a BNI group who you trust,

Speaker:

where you can form bonds and help each other with your

Speaker:

businesses. You can also learn from what other people are encountering.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

you never know when that might apply to you as well.

Speaker:

Those were two things that happened.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

Suby telling me to fire myself and then I was doing

Speaker:

my very first scope.

Speaker:

And one other thing happened there too.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

meeting Suby in person,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

we had made a great connection on the phone,

Speaker:

but meeting Sue B in person really confirmed to me how

Speaker:

much we connected with each other,

Speaker:

besides the fact that we both have the same name.

Speaker:

We both have such a strong passion for our businesses and

Speaker:

what we're trying to do in terms of paying it forward.

Speaker:

Based on the experience we've had before we both have experienced

Speaker:

within the retail area,

Speaker:

specifically the crafting space.

Speaker:

So we connected right away with that.

Speaker:

And just overall as people we jelled right from the minute

Speaker:

we met.

Speaker:

So I was feeling really,

Speaker:

really good about the relationship.

Speaker:

Well Suby then offered us all up an invitation and that

Speaker:

was to be considered to be in the audience of creative

Speaker:

live. It just so happened that Suby was going to be

Speaker:

doing a course in November,

Speaker:

in San Francisco for creative live.

Speaker:

And she had the opportunity to place people within her audience.

Speaker:

So, because I felt really close to Suby and I also

Speaker:

felt like she really got where I was trying to go.

Speaker:

My hand went up in like a nanosecond.

Speaker:

I'm like,

Speaker:

yes, I'm in.

Speaker:

I want to come.

Speaker:

It did also help.

Speaker:

I have to say that I have a very dear high

Speaker:

school friend in San Francisco and I knew I'd be able

Speaker:

to stay at her house and she'd been asking me to

Speaker:

come forever.

Speaker:

So it worked out really well in that manner as well.

Speaker:

But I got to tell you guys,

Speaker:

I bought my plane ticket before I was even accepted into

Speaker:

the audience.

Speaker:

That's how much I knew I needed to be there kind

Speaker:

of crazy.

Speaker:

But again,

Speaker:

here's an example of an opportunity that presented itself.

Speaker:

Had I walked away and said,

Speaker:

yeah, I'm going to think about that a little bit.

Speaker:

I, you know,

Speaker:

I'm not sure we want to rethink it.

Speaker:

I may not have done it and I didn't do it

Speaker:

that way.

Speaker:

I took the opportunity.

Speaker:

As soon as it was presented,

Speaker:

it just made all the sense in the world.

Speaker:

I jumped on it right away.

Speaker:

So that's a big,

Speaker:

big learning.

Speaker:

So that was September.

Speaker:

And that Ben completed my three days of what I'm kind

Speaker:

of calling my miracle transition weekend.

Speaker:

In the subsequent weeks I was taking action on things that

Speaker:

had happened.

Speaker:

I started scoping as scary as that can be.

Speaker:

I also did take Kim Garst class.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

I had mentioned before that she had the very first Periscope

Speaker:

class and the way I see it,

Speaker:

why try and reinvent the wheel.

Speaker:

If you have someone who knows what the heck they're doing

Speaker:

and they're offering a class,

Speaker:

go for it.

Speaker:

I also went and took her VIP portion of the class

Speaker:

and the VIP portion.

Speaker:

Yes, it was a little bit more expensive,

Speaker:

but Kim actually worked with the VIP's.

Speaker:

One-on-one actually reviewed our scopes for us.

Speaker:

We had a smaller subset of a group.

Speaker:

I believe there were 20,

Speaker:

between 20 and 23 of us only.

Speaker:

And we got more individual attention being a VIP.

Speaker:

And that is a big learning also for all of us

Speaker:

is if you have the opportunity to go as close and

Speaker:

as deep with these experts,

Speaker:

as you can,

Speaker:

it's really worth it because you get more out of the

Speaker:

experience. My feeling is with this is always learn from the

Speaker:

very best people that are out there.

Speaker:

Kim Garst is top of her field.

Speaker:

So is Sue B Zimmerman.

Speaker:

I did her VIP program as well.

Speaker:

So I want you guys to know,

Speaker:

I practice what I preach when I'm saying close.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

physically like in the room where they're doing their conferences,

Speaker:

also taking the VIP upgrades whenever you can,

Speaker:

is really valuable and worth it.

Speaker:

So I did that.

Speaker:

I was taking both of those classes,

Speaker:

so a class for Instagram and a class for scoping.

Speaker:

And then I also listened to Suby when she said fire

Speaker:

yourself. And I then started outsourcing most of my social media,

Speaker:

not everything,

Speaker:

cause I still want hands-on to some of my platforms,

Speaker:

but I hired Tina pedes,

Speaker:

his company called tenacious,

Speaker:

and they are now running my social media platforms.

Speaker:

So those of you have been following me for more than

Speaker:

four months,

Speaker:

have seen the difference in what I'm posting,

Speaker:

how it's working.

Speaker:

I still have input into it and I still see everything.

Speaker:

So I know what's going out,

Speaker:

I'll change the wording if I need to that kind of

Speaker:

thing. So I'm not removed from it,

Speaker:

but I have somebody else helping me with it.

Speaker:

And I cannot tell you when I finally did that,

Speaker:

I felt like a weight was lifted from me.

Speaker:

Do you remember back in high school or college when you

Speaker:

had those big,

Speaker:

huge projects that you needed to do term papers or labs

Speaker:

or whatever it was and when you finally turned it in

Speaker:

or, or finals,

It all happens from that first initial move,

exposing yourself to the environment,

right? So that you are available and ready when opportunities present

themselves and taking action on them.

My story continues for just a little bit longer.

We move into November and I go and attend Sue's creative

live course in San Francisco.

Speaker:

It was a great opportunity.

Speaker:

Again, of course,

I'm throwing more money at the investment into myself.

Speaker:

I honestly really had no idea what to expect.

Speaker:

Creative life is a series of online classes.

Speaker:

It's kind of an educational website,

Speaker:

if you will.

Speaker:

And there'll be classes about social media,

Speaker:

photography, different art and design business classes,

Speaker:

all sorts of things.

Speaker:

And they do have a very small audience about 10 people,

Speaker:

the way she structured it.

Speaker:

She had guest speakers as well.

Speaker:

And this,

Speaker:

these are serious classes.

Speaker:

You guys,

Speaker:

she was on stage for two days straight.

Speaker:

This is the third time she's been there.

Speaker:

The first two times she was on for three days straight.

Speaker:

Can you believe it?

Speaker:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker:

Anyway. Great speakers there too.

Speaker:

I have to say a couple of people that I ended

Speaker:

up getting to know better and learning from one was Brian

Speaker:

Fanzo. Oh my gosh.

Speaker:

She was so funny.

Speaker:

I was teaching somebody else how to start scoping.

Speaker:

So just as Suby a couple months prior had helped me

Speaker:

with my very first scope in the lobby of creative live.

Speaker:

Before we started day two,

Speaker:

I was helping a couple people also do their first scope

Speaker:

and that was so rewarding for me to be able to

Speaker:

take it and pay it forward.

Speaker:

But Brian Fanzo was so funny because he was on the

Speaker:

balcony watching me show these other people how to scope.

Speaker:

And I think he was actually scoping us too.

Speaker:

I'm not sure.

Speaker:

It was kind of crazy funny.

Speaker:

He from stage also did a live scope just to show

Speaker:

everybody how this works.

Speaker:

And just in terms of his techniques and advice on scoping,

Speaker:

I feel like the platform was so new.

Speaker:

I was still really learning and to get some really solid

Speaker:

information and direction from him was spectacular.

Speaker:

Sunny Lenner doozy was also on,

Speaker:

I think she was actually the first speaker and she is

Speaker:

well-known on YouTube.

Speaker:

She talks about building authority,

Speaker:

being an expert and making sure that people know that you're

Speaker:

the expert.

Speaker:

I have so much that I know about the space that

Speaker:

I'm in.

Speaker:

If I'm not telling people that nobody's going to know that

Speaker:

I'm the expert and that's kind of a different way of

Speaker:

thinking for me than I've ever had before,

Speaker:

but she talked a lot about that.

Speaker:

And she talked about part of being an expert is being

Speaker:

found on all these other platforms,

Speaker:

right? So all of us here in business,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

whether you're on Facebook,

Speaker:

Twitter, Pinterest,

Speaker:

YouTube, you're scoping,

Speaker:

wherever it might be.

Speaker:

If people aren't finding you the quality and the value of

your content really doesn't matter because no one's taking in that

content. Right?

Speaker:

So she had great messages on that behalf.

And then also Sue B had two of her people back

at the SPZ team,

Rachel Polish and Morgan Sutton on,

and Rachel talked about systems and she also talked about hashtag

strategies. So you can see all of this is really solid

how, how Sonny had been talking about being the expert,

been invited by Suby to be sitting in the audience.

And one of them is Yohanna Fritz she's out of Germany.

crazy adorable.

Speaker:

now, but my two takeaways really with the creative live experience,

not only was there so,

so much value from all the speakers who took the stage,

the people in the audience were spectacular and I've now linked

up and started to form relationships with people I never would

have met.

Speaker:

We talk about the businesses that they're in,

Speaker:

how we can help each other in terms of the way

Speaker:

our businesses overlap and cross each other.

Speaker:

So the value of the audience was equally as important in

Speaker:

terms of networking and learning as were the speakers on stage.

Speaker:

Secondly, it was really great for me to reinforce and enhance

Speaker:

my skills.

Speaker:

When you take any course,

Speaker:

yes, you're going to learn new things,

Speaker:

but it's also really good to be able to say,

Speaker:

all right,

Speaker:

you know what?

Speaker:

I've heard this before.

Speaker:

I'm doing it this way.

Speaker:

Now I understand that this is the right way to be

Speaker:

doing it.

Speaker:

So yay for me.

Speaker:

I can move on and focus on enhancing other areas of

Speaker:

the business.

Speaker:

You might think I'm done.

Speaker:

But the day after creative live,

Speaker:

Suby invited me to coffee with two other people.

Speaker:

One is Johana frit,

Speaker:

who I was just mentioning.

Speaker:

And the other is Heather Robinson,

Speaker:

who is with social tech.

Speaker:

She was talking to all three of us about possibly getting

Speaker:

into a coaching situation with her kind of crazy.

Speaker:

Just to give you a feel as to how Suby works.

Speaker:

I wasn't able to do this cause I wasn't staying right

Speaker:

downtown San Francisco,

Speaker:

but Yohanna,

Speaker:

Heather and Sue B went for a walk and talked business.

Speaker:

And then I met them up at the hotel for coffee,

Speaker:

right afterwards,

Speaker:

soupy is all about lifting people higher.

Speaker:

She talks a lot about the fact that she surrounds herself

Speaker:

with people who lift her higher and she loves working with

Speaker:

other people to lift them higher.

Speaker:

That's exactly what she tries to do with her coaching now

coaching. All right.

Speaker:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker:

You know,

I've just made all this investment in,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

traveling to San Francisco back it up from there an Instagram

course, a Periscope course.

Speaker:

And I also attended social boom and all of this cost

money. Right.

Speaker:

And, and Sue's mastermind,

but then I'm thinking,

Speaker:

okay, now,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

I do have a successful multi six figure business.

Speaker:

I mean the ribbon print company is going spectacular,

Speaker:

but I feel like there's a higher calling.

Speaker:

I feel there's more that I want to be doing,

Speaker:

which is why I had started this podcast.

Speaker:

And I looked at Sue as someone who was feeling the

Speaker:

same way and was way farther along on her journey than

Speaker:

I was with this higher calling.

Speaker:

So when we started talking coaching,

Speaker:

I was receptive to it,

Speaker:

even though it is a huge,

Speaker:

huge investment.

Speaker:

I decided to jump in and have her coach me because

Speaker:

she sees things from a totally different perspective that I do

Speaker:

yet. We're so compatible in our mission and our passion and

Speaker:

what we're doing moving forward,

Speaker:

albeit in a little bit of a different way,

Speaker:

she is showing me things and making me look at my

Speaker:

business in a way that I never had before.

Speaker:

And I don't honestly think I would have ever gotten to

Speaker:

without her.

Speaker:

So that leads me full circle back to this realization about

Speaker:

this whole journey that I've been on,

Speaker:

to be quite honest,

Speaker:

it was just last week when I was on scope past

Speaker:

Sunday and I got to be part of,

Speaker:

well, let me,

Speaker:

let me back up and tell you what that is.

Speaker:

Scope past Sunday happens every Sunday morning.

Speaker:

Then they pass it to the next person who goes 20

minutes, et cetera.

Speaker:

Friday night Suby calls me up and says,

Hey Sue,

Speaker:

do you want to take the pass on scope pest Sunday?

Speaker:

I'm like,

Speaker:

Whoa, wait,

Speaker:

what? I said,

Speaker:

well, what's the topic because I didn't want to go on

Speaker:

and pretend like I knew something I didn't know,

Speaker:

or that I didn't feel that I would be inappropriate resource

Speaker:

for. She says,

Speaker:

well, we're going to be talking about hashtags,

Speaker:

our favorite hashtags.

Speaker:

And I'm like,

Speaker:

all right,

Speaker:

I am in.

Speaker:

And I got to tell you,

Speaker:

the second I got done with that conversation and agreed to

Speaker:

do it.

Speaker:

I'm like,

Speaker:

Oh my gosh,

Speaker:

what did I just say?

Speaker:

I would do.

Speaker:

I was so anxious and so nervous because there's a big

Speaker:

audience with scope past Sunday.

Speaker:

And I knew it was a great opportunity for me in

Speaker:

terms of exposure,

Speaker:

but I was really nervous then about my going to be

Speaker:

okay, do I know what I'm talking about enough to be

Speaker:

able to speak it well and get my points across.

Speaker:

I felt solid in my content,

Speaker:

but it was the relaying of the content I was really

Speaker:

nervous about.

Speaker:

But like I've done all the time.

Speaker:

Two feet,

Speaker:

I just jumped right in the experience was fabulous.

Speaker:

Maybe some of you were on when I was on with

Speaker:

Scopus Sunday,

Speaker:

but it was such fun.

Speaker:

It was a great experience.

Speaker:

And I hope someday I'll get invited back to do it

one more time.

four months ago I look back on,

I, if someone would have told me all the things that

I've now done,

all the people who I've rubbed shoulders with some of them

I've gotten to know really on a great basis.

I would have never believed that you guys and the whole

I've been kind of talking about my learnings from each little

But I guess overall,

I have three learnings for you to take away.

And I really want you to think about this for your

businesses, because the last thing any of us want are dreams

of a business that we are so passionate about,

Speaker:

that we know could be so great and have things just

Speaker:

step in the way.

Speaker:

And we never realize our dreams.

Speaker:

And I don't want that to happen to you.

Speaker:

I'm trying not to let that happen to me.

Speaker:

And this is how I'm doing it.

Speaker:

These are my three takeaways.

Speaker:

One is absolutely positively invest in your business.

Speaker:

And yes,

Speaker:

guys that does mean money.

Speaker:

It's scary.

Speaker:

It can be uncomfortable,

Speaker:

but if you're serious about your business,

Speaker:

you do at some point have to put your money where

Speaker:

your heart is.

Speaker:

Did you hear me?

Speaker:

You have to put your money where your heart is.

Speaker:

The other thing you need to do is jump out of

Speaker:

your comfort zone.

Speaker:

I'm sure some of you have heard this quote,

Speaker:

the magic happens outside your comfort zone.

Speaker:

So the only way you're going to get to the magic.

Speaker:

And the only way that I got to the magic of

Speaker:

these last four months is by stepping out of my comfort

Speaker:

zone. And I got to tell you,

Speaker:

I was way far out of my comfort zone and I'm

Speaker:

continuing to stay out there.

Speaker:

And the third point is seek and respond to opportunities that

Speaker:

present themselves,

Speaker:

be open,

Speaker:

be watching for things that cross your path that you can

Speaker:

jump in on.

Speaker:

Just like I did.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

I jumped in on the mastermind with Suby.

Speaker:

She invited me to go to creative live.

Speaker:

I said,

Speaker:

yes, right away.

Speaker:

Then I hired out a new company to do my social

Speaker:

media. I jumped on the opportunity to be in the creative

Speaker:

live audience.

Speaker:

And now I've jumped on the opportunity of being coached by

Speaker:

one of the superstars in social media.

Speaker:

And I'm not sure where that path is going to take

Speaker:

me. I'm pretty sure it's going to be great things in

Speaker:

the future.

Speaker:

So I am doing this every single day.

Speaker:

All three of these things,

Speaker:

I'm investing in my success.

Speaker:

I'm stepping way,

Speaker:

way, way outside of my comfort zone.

Speaker:

And I'm watching for when those opportunities cross my path,

Speaker:

I'm looking at them,

Speaker:

I'm grabbing onto the ones that make sense for me.

Speaker:

And I am a riding.

Speaker:

This wave as my journey continues,

Speaker:

what I'm doing is I am focusing on people within the

Speaker:

gifting, baking and crafting spaces.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

many of these people have a passion for their product and

Speaker:

know how to make that perfect cupcake or know how to

Speaker:

make this beautiful jewelry.

Speaker:

But in terms of turning this into a business and how

Speaker:

to monetize the business,

Speaker:

that's where sometimes they fall short.

Speaker:

So my goal is to work with this type of industry

Speaker:

and help each and every one of you,

Speaker:

if this is you,

and this is your industry,

I would like to help you unwrap your greatness.

I have been able to take so much valuable content from all of your past speakers applying at least something from each of them to my business.     I have been following all of these folks for some time since October & November and am AMAZED at the transformation of my business.
