Hi there,
Speaker:it's Sue and thanks for joining me for Tips and Talk
Speaker:Day. These are bite sized topics that I pull from community
Speaker:questions and things that I'm observing in the world of handmade
Speaker:small business.
Speaker:If you'd like to submit a topic,
Speaker:DME over on Instagram at Gift Biz Unwrapped.
Speaker:Before we get started,
Speaker:I'm gonna share a secret with you.
Speaker:One of my superpowers is the ability to get an enormous
Speaker:number of tasks and projects done each and every week.
Speaker:I easily meet deadlines,
Speaker:rarely forget to do something,
Speaker:and know at the start of each day what needs priority,
Speaker:attention and action type A personality.
Speaker:Yes, and a follow through on the Kobe assessment,
Speaker:which should have given me the clue,
Speaker:but it wasn't until people started commenting to me that I
Speaker:realized not everyone naturally knows how to do this.
Speaker:It's the biggest single contributor to the growth I always see
Speaker:in my businesses without spending hours and hours working either.
Speaker:It's about focus and doing the right things efficiently.
Speaker:Prompted by all the questions on how I do this,
Speaker:I went about finding a way to help you perform at
Speaker:a higher level too.
Speaker:I analyzed my methods and formalized my process,
Speaker:which is one many of my coaching clients.
Speaker:Now, also follow.
Speaker:You can use it too.
Speaker:It's all part of a tool called the Inspired Daily Planner
Speaker:made specifically for Gifters,
Speaker:bakers, crafters,
Speaker:and makers.
Speaker:Make no mistake,
Speaker:this is not your ordinary planner.
Speaker:First off,
Speaker:it comes with a video explaining my productivity strategy and the
Speaker:physical planner isn't dated,
Speaker:so you can start using it the second it arrives at
Speaker:your doorstep,
Speaker:and that's not all included for each day is a motivational
Speaker:or business building tip and plenty of space to capture and
Speaker:book in time for to-dos scheduled appointments and all those ideas
Speaker:that are now getting lost.
Speaker:You can watch the video for free and then get your
Speaker:inspired daily planner@giftbizunwrapped.com
Speaker:slash inspired.
Speaker:Expect this to happen after you start and you're not alone.
Speaker:It happens to everyone.
Speaker:If you've been in business for some time,
Speaker:now you know it to be true because it's probably already
Speaker:happened to you.
Speaker:What am I talking about?
Speaker:Heidi, who started making wedding accessories and now sells finished and
Speaker:holiday ornament kits to boutiques.
Speaker:Sheila, who started a gift basket business out of her house
Speaker:and now owns a building that includes a home goods retail
Speaker:shop, in addition to her gifting business,
Speaker:Amy, who began selling marshmallows directly to consumers only to find
Speaker:out wholesale is really where it's at for her.
Speaker:The truth is,
Speaker:you really have no idea where the path will lead when
Speaker:you get started.
Speaker:You think you do,
Speaker:you have a vision to work towards,
Speaker:but opportunities come up.
Speaker:New connections provide fresh ideas and things evolve from there.
Speaker:I had no idea when I started my first business that
Speaker:it would lead to the ribbon print company and from there,
Speaker:gift bi unwrapped and a podcast no less.
Speaker:I know there are lots of people who dream of starting
Speaker:their own business but hesitate because they wanna do it perfectly,
Speaker:whatever that means right out of the gate,
Speaker:or they're full of fear because they don't want to do
Speaker:things wrong,
Speaker:so it happens.
Speaker:They just stay put only talking about their idea.
Speaker:Here's the truth.
Speaker:There isn't a right path or a nonrecoverable move if you
Speaker:start out,
Speaker:and I put in quotes here wrong,
Speaker:the only mistake you can make is not to start to
Speaker:think and talk and dream,
Speaker:but never actually act upon it,
Speaker:and I guarantee you,
Speaker:as has been proven over and over again,
Speaker:your business will transform into something different as you move forward.
Speaker:But if you don't start,
Speaker:it doesn't even have that chance.
Speaker:So you might ask,
Speaker:why does change happen?
Speaker:Lots of reasons.
Speaker:For one,
Speaker:you may find as you validate your product that those who
Speaker:purchase from you are an entirely different profile than you initially
Speaker:thought. Therefore,
Speaker:you need to adjust your product to provide what they want
Speaker:and will buy.
Speaker:Or as you progress with your making and selling,
Speaker:you may identify even invent a new twist to your products
Speaker:that you can claim as your own and become known for.
Speaker:This arises only from the doing,
Speaker:not sitting on the couch thinking.
Speaker:It's the activity that brings you to these revelations.
Speaker:Also, over time,
Speaker:your product may become less relevant and needs to change.
Speaker:Pop culture is always morphing,
Speaker:as we all know.
Speaker:Think of the change in fashion with each season and year.
Speaker:Colors, styles,
Speaker:and fabrics all come in and out of vogue.
Speaker:This is a good thing because when you align with what's
Speaker:in your products are always fresh with something new to sell.
Speaker:In marketing speak,
Speaker:you could call this the product evolution or life stages of
Speaker:a product,
Speaker:and it varies by the product you sell.
Speaker:Think back to boom boxes,
Speaker:for example.
Speaker:Certainly not the rave today as they once were,
Speaker:they were replaced over time by the iPod and now that
Speaker:is even nonexistent given our phones can do it all.
Speaker:Everyone will always want and need things like soap,
Speaker:jewelry, pottery,
Speaker:chocolate, except for rare exception.
Speaker:Most of what you as a maker create yet how you
Speaker:present in market may change or who you sell to may
Speaker:change, meaning direct to consumers,
Speaker:wholesale, or a combination of the two.
Speaker:You may start at a church basement doing a holiday bizarre
Speaker:and work up to large,
Speaker:one of a kind maker shows or decide to expand nationwide
Speaker:and sell exclusively online.
Speaker:Don't let all of these options scare you.
Speaker:Instead, consider them as opportunities to select what works best for
Speaker:you, what brings results and what you enjoy the most.
Speaker:Except that you won't know that either unless you jump in.
Speaker:We have a holiday season upon us right now.
Speaker:This is the perfect time to get moving with a new
Speaker:business. People are in a buying mindset,
Speaker:which makes your job of validating your product the first step
Speaker:so much easier.
Speaker:If you'd like direction on exactly how to do this,
Speaker:take a look at my Start with Confidence program.
Speaker:It will guide you step by step on how to get
Speaker:your business off on the right track without wasting time and
Speaker:money. You can find that@giftbizunwrapped.com
Speaker:slash start with confidence.
Speaker:Just think you could be selling your handmade products within a
Speaker:week or so.
Speaker:Remember what I said,
Speaker:the worst thing that you can do is keep dreaming and
Speaker:never let that dream become a reality.
Speaker:I believe in you,
Speaker:and as I say all the time in this show,
Speaker:we want and need the products that you make.
Speaker:They fill us up with so much joy and happiness.
Speaker:That's a wrap.
Speaker:I'm a get to the point kind of girl,
Speaker:and this is what you can expect from these quick midweek
Speaker:sessions. Now it's your turn.
Speaker:Go out and fulfill that dream of yours.
Speaker:Share your handmade products with us.
Speaker:We want them,
