Speaker:

Your gift biz.

Speaker:

Here is your host gift biz gal,

Speaker:

Sue moon Heights.

Speaker:

Hi there.

Speaker:

It's Sue.

Speaker:

And thanks for joining me today.

Speaker:

How did this happen?

Speaker:

It's the middle of summer and I'm busier than ever.

Speaker:

Isn't this the time when I should be slowing down a

Speaker:

little bit and taking in the season.

Speaker:

Well, I'm kind of doing that too,

Speaker:

but I've got so many exciting new ideas to implement,

Speaker:

and I think why put it off as you know,

Speaker:

we started the bashes a few months ago and they've been

Speaker:

a raving success.

Speaker:

Have you listened to one,

Speaker:

if not,

Speaker:

just jump back in the lineup and look for one of

Speaker:

the shows that says bash in front of the title.

Speaker:

So many of you are getting new customers and collaborating on

Speaker:

new projects.

Speaker:

Exactly what I was hoping would happen.

Speaker:

And it's working.

Speaker:

If you haven't been part of a bash yet,

Speaker:

consider this your personal invitation to join in.

Speaker:

You can sign up for a spot at gift biz,

Speaker:

I have several other exciting things headed your way to one

Speaker:

I'd like to share with you today is a tool that

Speaker:

I've created for you.

Speaker:

This show is now in its eighth year.

Speaker:

I can't even believe that.

Speaker:

And during this time we've covered a lot of ground how

Speaker:

to start and grow your business stories from many of you

Speaker:

who have done just that,

Speaker:

how to choose and use social media sites,

Speaker:

build your own website.

Speaker:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker:

There is so much information here for you,

Speaker:

but not necessarily easily at your fingertips.

Speaker:

So I've made a tool that categorizes by topic,

Speaker:

the episodes of the show,

Speaker:

but only the ones that stay relevant over time,

Speaker:

because yes,

Speaker:

there are some shows that just don't work for us today.

Speaker:

The world is changing so fast,

Speaker:

right? You can use this tool to zero in on whatever

Speaker:

topic you want information on at the moment.

Speaker:

Do you want to hear from others in your specific industry?

Speaker:

How about details on Pinterest or setting up an email strategy?

Speaker:

You can now easily find the right episodes and create your

Speaker:

listening roster.

Speaker:

Consider this your gift biz resource center at a glance to

Speaker:

check it out,

Speaker:

go to gift biz,

Speaker:

unwrapped.com forward slash topics.

Speaker:

Of course it's free.

Speaker:

It's a Google doc and make sure to note at the

Speaker:

bottom, I have five separate sections for easy reference.

Speaker:

I've never seen another podcast do this,

Speaker:

and I wish they would to be quite honest.

Speaker:

It makes listening to the shows you need at the moment.

Speaker:

So much easier.

Speaker:

The link again is gift biz,

Speaker:

unwrapped.com forward slash topics.

Speaker:

Interestingly enough,

Speaker:

in today's show,

Speaker:

we'll also be talking about podcasts.

Speaker:

The industry has come so far since I started and just

Speaker:

continues to grow,

Speaker:

which brings up the question.

Speaker:

How may it be a fit for a product based business

Speaker:

or is it even,

Speaker:

and if so,

Speaker:

how do you do it?

Speaker:

Spoiler alert here.

Speaker:

I am not suggesting or condoning in any way that you

Speaker:

start your own show.

Speaker:

It would take you totally off task for the majority of

Speaker:

you anyway,

Speaker:

but you will hear a bit about what's behind having your

Speaker:

own podcast,

Speaker:

but what I'm looking forward to sharing with you today is

Speaker:

how being a guest on someone else's show may be something

Speaker:

to consider.

Speaker:

We'll talk about how this can give you more exposure to

Speaker:

your business and build your credibility,

Speaker:

how to find podcasts and prepare to be a guest and

Speaker:

some other nuances along the way.

Speaker:

Hm. Could podcast guesting be in your future.

Speaker:

Hi there it's Sue and welcome to today's show.

Speaker:

I am thrilled to be introducing you to know Amy and

Speaker:

Gabor. Barez Noemi and Gabor are the owners of podcast connections.

Speaker:

A husband and wife team who have been working together for

Speaker:

13 years.

Speaker:

They help entrepreneurs and business owners connect with podcast hosts to

Speaker:

share their knowledge with the appropriate listening audiences.

Speaker:

Gabor is dedicated to helping experts grow their business with interviews

Speaker:

and know Amy applies her online marketing expertise and skills in

Speaker:

content creation and organization.

Speaker:

Now I'm going to tell you that they are my go-to

Speaker:

place to find guests on the show.

Speaker:

If ever I'm looking for somebody special by topic and I

Speaker:

don't already have access to them.

Speaker:

In other ways I will call no Amy and she without

Speaker:

fail, finds the right people.

Speaker:

She also brings a lot of people to me.

Speaker:

And whenever I see an email in my inbox from her,

Speaker:

I automatically click it.

Speaker:

Cause I know it's going to be perfect.

Speaker:

And you might say,

Speaker:

well, how does that apply to me as a handmade business

Speaker:

owner stay?

Speaker:

So Amy and Gabor,

Speaker:

welcome to the gift biz on repped podcast.

Speaker:

Hello, Sue,

Speaker:

thank you so much for inviting us and to be on

Speaker:

your show.

Speaker:

It's an absolute pleasure.

Speaker:

Well, Amy,

Speaker:

you have some connection with the handmade product community,

Speaker:

don't you?

Speaker:

That's true.

Speaker:

So yes,

Speaker:

because by day we run our podcast agency with my husband

Speaker:

GABA and by night and during the weekends,

Speaker:

I'm a hobby artist.

Speaker:

I make handmade collages on paper and hand-sewn collage is on

Speaker:

canvas. So this is my go to relaxation procedure in the

Speaker:

evening, after a hard day at work.

Speaker:

That's what I do in my free time.

Speaker:

I had a couple of exhibitions in Europe,

Speaker:

especially in Cyprus and in Italy group exhibitions.

Speaker:

And I really enjoyed them before the pandemic.

Speaker:

And hopefully I can continue with them in the future too.

Speaker:

I love that you're doing them still on the side because

Speaker:

don't you just get that feeling of just going and making

Speaker:

something it's so fulfilling,

Speaker:

but it has some type of health benefits for us.

Speaker:

Just the act of creating.

Speaker:

Absolutely. It helped me just rewind and just relax in the

Speaker:

evening and then enjoy listening to audio books,

Speaker:

why I'm doing making collages.

Speaker:

So no I'm in bed and doing collages,

Speaker:

listening to audio books or music.

Speaker:

So it's just like,

Speaker:

yes, that's the me-time for me.

Speaker:

Yes. Okay.

Speaker:

So I start the show in a little bit of a

Speaker:

different way.

Speaker:

We've been doing it this way all these years,

Speaker:

and it really relates to the audience and helps them get

Speaker:

to know you in a little bit of a different way.

Speaker:

And that is through a motivational candle.

Speaker:

Are you guys doing one candle or two candles?

Speaker:

We Do two candles.

Speaker:

We have those good.

Speaker:

Okay. Good.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

Wonderful. So we're going to hear about each of your candles,

Speaker:

what they look like and then a motivational quote or saying

Speaker:

or something that inspires you that gives us another look at

Speaker:

who you are.

Speaker:

I'm going to let you guys take control and decide who

Speaker:

goes first.

Speaker:

I go first,

Speaker:

my motivational candle is blue.

Speaker:

I love the color of blue because I think it represents

Speaker:

it's a calming color and it represents loyalty responsibility,

Speaker:

intelligence. And I was always loved with blue and all my

Speaker:

life. I can see,

Speaker:

I have like blue earrings or shades of blue,

Speaker:

like my favorite.

Speaker:

So that's why it's the blue candle and my motivation in

Speaker:

a quarter,

Speaker:

just keep going.

Speaker:

And I went through a lot and we've been through a

Speaker:

lot in the past five years.

Speaker:

I lost many people close to me,

Speaker:

my family.

Speaker:

That was my motto all the way along.

Speaker:

Just keep going.

Speaker:

And that's my motto in my personal life and in the

Speaker:

business as well.

Speaker:

So just keep going.

Speaker:

Well, my sympathy and heart goes out to you.

Speaker:

It's never easy to have loss like that for sure.

Speaker:

So I have to say that I can't have a comment

Speaker:

like that and not address it in that way.

Speaker:

I think a lot of us over these last few years

Speaker:

can relate to that as well.

Speaker:

And you kept going wonderful.

Speaker:

Love your candle.

Speaker:

Okay. Gabor your turn.

Speaker:

A big bite.

Speaker:

You should.

Speaker:

So this represent for me,

Speaker:

it's simplicity.

Speaker:

It's The motto is done is better than perfect.

Speaker:

We can go deeper.

Speaker:

That is nothing done really,

Speaker:

but it's done is better than perfect.

Speaker:

So just start off something and go for it before you

Speaker:

read that's I think that's the way Just jump in or

Speaker:

you can delay forever.

Speaker:

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker:

I think also this is really important for our listeners who

Speaker:

are makers,

Speaker:

when you're a hobby,

Speaker:

you can tinker with whatever you're doing for forever,

Speaker:

but if you're making things to sell at some point,

Speaker:

it has to be done and you have to like limit

Speaker:

your production time or you're just going to keep going.

Speaker:

And you're going to never make money because you're putting so

Speaker:

much time into a product versus making a second one so

Speaker:

that you can sell two.

Speaker:

Instead of one,

Speaker:

the whole point of handmade is some slight imperfections.

Speaker:

One is different than another colors.

Speaker:

Vary all of that.

Speaker:

That's the beauty of handmade as well.

Speaker:

Yeah. You can make exactly the same one.

Speaker:

I'm an executive handmade.

Speaker:

Like with my collages,

Speaker:

I feel the same way.

Speaker:

They all it all the time.

Speaker:

Just uniqueness all around.

Speaker:

Yeah. And I think for me,

Speaker:

just an example,

Speaker:

I usually bring up it's like logo,

Speaker:

I think,

Speaker:

especially for like someone like artistic mind or maybe a handmade,

Speaker:

just like this creative mind,

Speaker:

just like,

Speaker:

okay, we need a logo for our business.

Speaker:

And then it's going to take weeks,

Speaker:

maybe months to get the logo and a video with the

Speaker:

logo in can start a business,

Speaker:

which is not true.

Speaker:

Just make a logo and then go for it.

Speaker:

Usually what I say Absolutely.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

I know that everyone listening can relate to that.

Speaker:

What's the business name going to be?

Speaker:

What are my brand colors going to be?

Speaker:

I can't start until I do this and this and this

Speaker:

and this.

Speaker:

And I like to teach people that don't even do all

Speaker:

those things right away.

Speaker:

First thing you want to do is validate that your product

Speaker:

will sell.

Speaker:

Because what if you're thinking that you're going to be selling,

Speaker:

I don't know your prints or something,

Speaker:

but then you find out later that what people are really

Speaker:

loving from you is something totally different.

Speaker:

If you would've started in named it off of that original

Speaker:

product, you may have to rework it all anyway.

Speaker:

So validation before you really get started in that manner is

Speaker:

a good idea too.

Speaker:

But yeah.

Speaker:

Excellent. Excellent.

Speaker:

You can see it hit like a thread with me,

Speaker:

right? To talk about that.

Speaker:

But let's move on to the topic today and now you

Speaker:

guys are going to understand why this topic exists.

Speaker:

And that is,

Speaker:

we all know podcasting is growing and growing.

Speaker:

Gosh, when I first started,

Speaker:

there were so many of you who didn't even know what

Speaker:

a podcast was.

Speaker:

I would say I was a podcaster.

Speaker:

And you had like,

Speaker:

there'd be a glaze in people's eyes.

Speaker:

I'm talking 2015.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

some people knew lots of people didn't yet,

Speaker:

but now it continues to grow and grow and grow on

Speaker:

a bigger and bigger scale.

Speaker:

And I'll tell you over the course of time,

Speaker:

I've had people like I'll attend conferences and now people are

Speaker:

listening to the show and there'll be like,

Speaker:

Sue, I'm going to start a podcast.

Speaker:

I'm going to start a podcast.

Speaker:

And I'm like,

Speaker:

great. Cause I never want to tell people not to.

Speaker:

So I'll ask you as a handmade creator,

Speaker:

where do you think hosting a podcast would fall in the

Speaker:

whole realm of things?

Speaker:

Is it a good idea?

Speaker:

Is it not a good idea?

Speaker:

I'll give my opinion.

Speaker:

Of course too,

Speaker:

because that never stops me,

Speaker:

but I'm wondering what you guys think.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

it's actually depends,

Speaker:

but our honest opinion is that start good.

Speaker:

Cause guesting,

Speaker:

before you host a podcast,

Speaker:

it's much easier,

Speaker:

less stress and it would cost you less money,

Speaker:

less organization and less trouble to be on other people's podcasts

Speaker:

and other experts for a podcast.

Speaker:

Dan actually start a completely unique podcast from scratch.

Speaker:

We know it's a hard procedure and it's a hard job

Speaker:

and not everybody knows that,

Speaker:

but it is a hard job to run a podcast.

Speaker:

So my honest opinion,

Speaker:

like I myself right now,

Speaker:

I wouldn't start,

Speaker:

but I love being on other hosts podcasts Just to start

Speaker:

a podcast,

Speaker:

you can do it yourself.

Speaker:

Obviously you can edit the episode and you have to think

Speaker:

about weekly or BV weekly episodes,

Speaker:

which again,

Speaker:

that's effort to bring in guests to come up with topics.

Speaker:

Obviously editing the show if you want,

Speaker:

or you can go through,

Speaker:

but I'm not sure if someone that unexperience and the shows

Speaker:

today are like pretty enjoyable.

Speaker:

So usually if I hear show is like bad sound quality.

Speaker:

I'm not gonna listen to.

Speaker:

So I believe more people are going to be dead.

Speaker:

It's usually the good podcast sounds like a radio.

Speaker:

So that's not like some scratching noises in the background,

Speaker:

Right? So that's editing a show like you want to do

Speaker:

like four episodes a month.

Speaker:

Let's say that we have cost around four to 600 at

Speaker:

a minimum to get those edited.

Speaker:

Maybe get promotional material,

Speaker:

lack of social media.

Speaker:

But the other end,

Speaker:

it can be reused for other content to have a business.

Speaker:

That's something to consider.

Speaker:

And I think the cutoff point when people realize it's just

Speaker:

too much time and too much money,

Speaker:

maybe it's somewhere like episode seven or 15 somewhere between they're

Speaker:

going to just drop it off.

Speaker:

Yeah, I see it all the time.

Speaker:

And I hear about it all the time.

Speaker:

Like I'll find a podcast that I'm starting to like,

Speaker:

and then it's over.

Speaker:

It's gone.

Speaker:

I think really for handmade creators,

Speaker:

if you are considering starting a podcast and I don't want

Speaker:

to spend too much time on this,

Speaker:

cause I really want to focus on the guesting part,

Speaker:

but you really need to decide what is that doing to

Speaker:

enhance the goals of your business.

Speaker:

So if you're a creator and you're looking to sell your

Speaker:

product, how does a podcast as hosting a product funnel into

Speaker:

your goals?

Speaker:

Is it going to get you more customers?

Speaker:

Where does that all land?

Speaker:

So I think that's something to think about.

Speaker:

Now, if you're thinking of moving into teaching more about your

Speaker:

product or you're looking at leveling your business with something else,

Speaker:

then that would be different.

Speaker:

But it goes back to the goal.

Speaker:

I would say for 99% of people that are listening,

Speaker:

a podcast is going to divert your attention away from sales

Speaker:

and not the thing to do,

Speaker:

to my opinion,

Speaker:

only anyone who wants to talk about it with me,

Speaker:

sign up for a discovery call and we can chat about

Speaker:

it. It'd be fine with me,

Speaker:

but I don't want people to divert what they're trying to

Speaker:

do and the goals that they have with their handmade product

Speaker:

business to start a podcast.

Speaker:

Now having said that guests Dean on a podcast,

Speaker:

totally different story.

Speaker:

So what would you guys say about that?

Speaker:

Being a guest on a podcast?

Speaker:

Yeah. Being a guest,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

the proof of the pudding.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

we run our forecast agency,

Speaker:

but we are guests as well on podcasts.

Speaker:

And we are getting clients from those interviews at more and

Speaker:

more so we can see it is working and we can

Speaker:

see it's working with our clients too.

Speaker:

So actually you can do it and you can be on

Speaker:

other people's podcasts.

Speaker:

And even the host can be your ideal client or anyone

Speaker:

from the audience and you can sell to them.

Speaker:

So that's one part and that's important because at the end

Speaker:

of the day you share knowledge.

Speaker:

That's so important when it comes to podcast guesting.

Speaker:

But obviously you want to introduce your product to other people.

Speaker:

Like if you're a craft or maker,

Speaker:

baker, artists and selling is going to be there as well.

Speaker:

So that's an important,

Speaker:

Yeah. And you don't have to come up with ideas and

Speaker:

new guests and new topics every week because it's easier to

Speaker:

kind of repeatable,

Speaker:

but you can tell on other shows.

Speaker:

So that's a,

Speaker:

Yeah, it's much easier,

Speaker:

much easier to be a guest for sure.

Speaker:

And I think more valuable for you to,

Speaker:

as a handmade creator.

Speaker:

If again,

Speaker:

your goal is to be selling your handmade products and that's

Speaker:

your whole goal.

Speaker:

I also wanted to just stay here to be clear.

Speaker:

Let's share just very briefly because we'll talk about it in

Speaker:

the end also.

Speaker:

But so everybody understands where your comments are based from share

Speaker:

a little bit about your business and what you're doing.

Speaker:

Our businesses podcast connections.

Speaker:

It's a boutique podcast agency.

Speaker:

And we work with an network of hosts from all around

Speaker:

the world,

Speaker:

mainly in the us,

Speaker:

UK, Australia,

Speaker:

New Zealand,

Speaker:

the English speaking areas of the world.

Speaker:

And we connect experts to podcasts.

Speaker:

That's what we do.

Speaker:

That's what we are good at.

Speaker:

And we made the connection and we have to organize interviews.

Speaker:

Yeah. So just like I was talking about in the beginning,

Speaker:

if they have somebody who's a handmade creator or another topic

Speaker:

that they think I might be interested in,

Speaker:

they will approach me and say,

Speaker:

Hey, here's information about this particular person.

Speaker:

Would you be interested?

Speaker:

So this is the type of thing that then you also

Speaker:

can do if you're looking at getting on some people's shows.

Speaker:

So I'm thinking benefits here for a handmaid creator are obviously

Speaker:

exposure. You're getting the fact that you even exist out to

Speaker:

a way broader audience than you could do.

Speaker:

If you're doing like a craft show or wherever you're currently

Speaker:

selling, even being able to drive more people to your website,

Speaker:

social, all of that.

Speaker:

And there are lots of different types of podcasts available for

Speaker:

you as well.

Speaker:

You can go and share your expertise.

Speaker:

You might want to train a little bit on something.

Speaker:

Perhaps you may just be talking about your origin story,

Speaker:

how you started and how you grew your business.

Speaker:

There are also podcasts.

Speaker:

If you go in and you look in some of the

Speaker:

different categories,

Speaker:

this show actually sits under the leisure slash craft category because

Speaker:

that's how I intercept with more people who are handmade creators,

Speaker:

but you'll see that there are podcasts that are not business

Speaker:

development, podcasts,

Speaker:

just kind of lifestyle,

Speaker:

podcasts of quilters or painters or artists of all different sorts.

Speaker:

Go take a look if you're unfamiliar with the different types

Speaker:

of podcasts that are available,

Speaker:

because these are all options to further explain where what you

Speaker:

know and what you do could fit very well as a

Speaker:

guest into these podcasts.

Speaker:

Okay? So that was a long explanation.

Speaker:

I got kind of into a tangent there.

Speaker:

No Amy and Gabor,

Speaker:

do you want to say anything else about that?

Speaker:

Just in terms of the benefit or the reason why someone

Speaker:

might consider being a guest?

Speaker:

Sure. It's a great networking opportunity as well.

Speaker:

You have to build your professional network.

Speaker:

And one of the best ways is to do podcast guesting.

Speaker:

We seen that like friendships for improving friendships and business relationships

Speaker:

booming after a podcast interview.

Speaker:

And it's so good to see that we are sitting here

Speaker:

in Cyprus,

Speaker:

Europe and people connecting and doing business together or just working

Speaker:

on projects together in other areas as well in the U

Speaker:

S for example,

Speaker:

As you mentioned,

Speaker:

like building more visibility or beating you out in your niche,

Speaker:

that's could be another benefit to going out or even lead

Speaker:

generation. You can offer something for free,

Speaker:

usually in the show notes.

Speaker:

So people can visit your website,

Speaker:

download somethings,

Speaker:

Not your product and not a discount code.

Speaker:

No, no,

Speaker:

no, no,

Speaker:

no. Because remember podcasts go on forever.

Speaker:

So never ever on a podcast offer a free product or

Speaker:

a discount without a deadline date,

Speaker:

of course,

Speaker:

but different types of downloads for lead acquisition,

Speaker:

Gabor. Like what,

Speaker:

like what are you thinking?

Speaker:

I have some ideas,

Speaker:

but I want to hear what you're thinking.

Speaker:

Yeah. Something to free.

Speaker:

I dunno.

Speaker:

It's depends.

Speaker:

Maybe if you do journals,

Speaker:

right? So something productivity around the journals,

Speaker:

that could be one,

Speaker:

maybe a checklist.

Speaker:

Yeah. Checklists where people can sign up and download something and

Speaker:

yeah. Or we send them by email,

Speaker:

Right. Something virtual that's automatic,

Speaker:

they sign up and they get it 800% virtual.

Speaker:

Yes. Because I mean,

Speaker:

as you said,

Speaker:

like forecasts episodes are evergreen.

Speaker:

They going to stay there forever Or maybe something printed,

Speaker:

but because we are talking about your businesses,

Speaker:

Good idea.

Speaker:

Sure. Something printable,

Speaker:

maybe a card,

Speaker:

you download it from the side of your side.

Speaker:

That's good.

Speaker:

Love that idea.

Speaker:

Or if you're an artist also you could download something that

Speaker:

could be used as a screensaver,

Speaker:

for example,

Speaker:

Executive You on your phone or your desktop,

Speaker:

like thoughts of creative ideas.

Speaker:

But again,

Speaker:

nothing that is going to cost you money in perpetuity.

Speaker:

Right? And the best idea is something that they click the

Speaker:

button, you have it set up on the back end that

Speaker:

it automatically delivers.

Speaker:

So you really don't have to worry about it,

Speaker:

but you have a new subscriber for your email list.

Speaker:

Exactly. And that we've been talking about email a lot on

Speaker:

the show lately.

Speaker:

So people who have been listening for even just a few

Speaker:

episodes, know all about that conversation.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So let's get into the goods.

Speaker:

Let's talk about if there are people here who are thinking,

Speaker:

Hmm, I never thought about that before,

Speaker:

but I have no idea how I would get started.

Speaker:

What would you do?

Speaker:

And how would you advise somebody who is now considering being

Speaker:

a guest on a show?

Speaker:

What do you do?

Speaker:

What are your next steps?

Speaker:

So the idea is,

Speaker:

yes, I want to do it now.

Speaker:

What? Now you have to actually target your most obvious niche.

Speaker:

First, what podcast do your idea clients listen to.

Speaker:

You have to figure that out because that's really important.

Speaker:

And for example,

Speaker:

artists, you are looking for art podcasts or crafters makers like

Speaker:

handmade related podcasts.

Speaker:

There are lots of them online and iTunes is your friend.

Speaker:

So you can do a lot of research.

Speaker:

That's what we do in our business too.

Speaker:

That's the most important part.

Speaker:

Start your research,

Speaker:

start listening to podcasts and two episodes and have that knowledge,

Speaker:

what they are all about.

Speaker:

So you have first,

Speaker:

you have to figure this out.

Speaker:

That's the most important.

Speaker:

Yes. And another idea I'm thinking that just came up to

Speaker:

me now.

Speaker:

I hope you don't mind if I interrupt you sometimes and

Speaker:

back and forth.

Speaker:

Okay. I'm thinking,

Speaker:

you know how there are a lot of podcasts that are,

Speaker:

location-based like,

Speaker:

let's say someone's in a suburb of Atlanta.

Speaker:

It may not be a podcast.

Speaker:

That's talking about handmade crafts,

Speaker:

but it's talking about Atlanta and you're in Atlanta and you

Speaker:

do craft shows there all the time.

Speaker:

That would be a great place because those would be potentially

Speaker:

your target customers.

Speaker:

If it's a show based in Atlanta,

Speaker:

on cigars,

Speaker:

maybe not,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

but if it's just overall consumers or things that are going

Speaker:

on in Atlanta or things to love about the city,

Speaker:

then it would be a,

Speaker:

so look locally,

Speaker:

too. So topics who the audience is and locality.

Speaker:

Yeah. That's what I wanted to mention.

Speaker:

As I search report guests,

Speaker:

search for shows for local businesses in your city,

Speaker:

in your area,

Speaker:

focus on them because you have to know them as well.

Speaker:

It's important.

Speaker:

Right. And what do you say about shows that don't take

Speaker:

guests yet?

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

I'm always looking,

Speaker:

I'm not going to go out and look to be on

Speaker:

someone else's show if I'm listening to their show and they

Speaker:

never have guests,

Speaker:

right? Yeah.

Speaker:

Well, yeah.

Speaker:

That's true.

Speaker:

Yeah. You have to check that if it's a solo or

Speaker:

not, Is it worth approaching them anyway because maybe their word.

Speaker:

Yeah. Okay.

Speaker:

So always first approach from our experience.

Speaker:

Yeah. And do that.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

we had podcasters before they started like,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

I never had guests before,

Speaker:

but now you approach me.

Speaker:

It's like,

Speaker:

why not?

Speaker:

Let's start with guests.

Speaker:

And since then,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

they are having guests.

Speaker:

So Yeah.

Speaker:

Even check back later,

Speaker:

it's happened before we sent out to somebody who was just

Speaker:

a solo and they had an idea of like,

Speaker:

that's sounds great topic I don't know about,

Speaker:

but my audience want to hear about it.

Speaker:

So that's how I think it was,

Speaker:

she, she started having guests once in a while.

Speaker:

So yeah.

Speaker:

Or maybe just keep it on a list for a separately,

Speaker:

Check back.

Speaker:

Maybe, maybe they're going to get listed.

Speaker:

Yeah. And people switch up shows all the time.

Speaker:

Look, I used to be a hundred percent guests,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

and now I'm switching it up a little bit and I've

Speaker:

gone back and forth over the course of the years.

Speaker:

So you just never know.

Speaker:

So, all right.

Speaker:

So we create a list.

Speaker:

Best place,

Speaker:

probably go into iTunes or wherever you listen to podcasts,

Speaker:

look in the different categories.

Speaker:

But category lists only give you the top podcasts.

Speaker:

So don't just look there,

Speaker:

look further down and search by.

Speaker:

What do you say keywords is the best way.

Speaker:

Yeah. You can search keepers or even if you leave iTunes,

Speaker:

you can search like top podcasts in on Google.

Speaker:

And then there are site listing is like,

Speaker:

oh my favorite,

Speaker:

maybe 25 or maybe 50 favorite podcasts in this country,

Speaker:

The podcast podcast,

Speaker:

art podcasts or anything.

Speaker:

Yeah. So we have our list.

Speaker:

Let's just say to make this easy five to 10 target

Speaker:

five to 10.

Speaker:

That sound good.

Speaker:

Just to start,

Speaker:

just to get a feel for it and see if you

Speaker:

like doing it and you,

Speaker:

you know how it goes.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So that's the first step is looking for the shows that

Speaker:

you would want to be on.

Speaker:

Now, what do we do?

Speaker:

It may be mentioned or not,

Speaker:

but you need a couple of topics.

Speaker:

So you just think about what would you like to talk

Speaker:

about? Maybe that's the best way to start.

Speaker:

It's like,

Speaker:

how do I have my audience?

Speaker:

What can I tell them?

Speaker:

What can I teach them?

Speaker:

Because you are also running a business.

Speaker:

So you can,

Speaker:

you can think about yourself as a business.

Speaker:

So you can talk about your business.

Speaker:

How did you start at maybe your handmade business?

Speaker:

How did you grow with,

Speaker:

and maybe our seller on,

Speaker:

let's say another chance like you're selling on Etsy,

Speaker:

you are selling on eBay or Muslim,

Speaker:

or if you have a Shopify store,

Speaker:

so you have another one as a seller on those platforms.

Speaker:

If this podcast is like,

Speaker:

how can I have them?

Speaker:

So that's the main I would think then that different topics

Speaker:

fit different podcasts too.

Speaker:

Like if you have a shop on Etsy and you have

Speaker:

a lot of experience on Etsy,

Speaker:

maybe you want to go and talk with some people who

Speaker:

have Etsy type podcasts.

Speaker:

And I know for a fact,

Speaker:

cause I've just been on a couple that they want people

Speaker:

who have experience with that platform in particular Shopify,

Speaker:

same thing.

Speaker:

Now that wouldn't be necessarily the best topic.

Speaker:

If you're looking at connecting up with someone who talks about

Speaker:

people locally,

Speaker:

but how you started your business and that you're in the

Speaker:

community and maybe even shouting out other services and providers in

Speaker:

the community who helped you as you built your business,

Speaker:

that could be something that's really good for local.

Speaker:

So your topics change also based on the shows that you

Speaker:

are pitching to,

Speaker:

I'm putting the word out there pitching That's the key.

Speaker:

That's The key.

Speaker:

Okay. So we've got our target list of podcasts.

Speaker:

We have some topics that we think would be relevant and

Speaker:

good. Then what's the next step,

Speaker:

a short break here to hear from our sponsor?

Speaker:

Yes, it's possible increase your sales without adding a single customer.

Speaker:

How you ask by offering personalization with your products,

Speaker:

wrap a cake box with a ribbon saying happy 30th birthday,

Speaker:

Annie, or at a special message and date to wedding or

Speaker:

party favors for an extra meaningful touch.

Speaker:

Where else can you get customization with a creatively spelled name

Speaker:

or find packaging?

Speaker:

That includes a saying whose meaning is known to a select

Speaker:

to not only are customers willing to pay for these special

Speaker:

touches. They'll tell their friends and word will spread about your

Speaker:

company and products.

Speaker:

You can create personalized ribbons and labels in seconds,

Speaker:

make just one or thousands without waiting weeks or having to

Speaker:

spend money to order yards and yards print words in any

Speaker:

language or font,

Speaker:

add logos,

Speaker:

images, even photos,

Speaker:

perfect for branding or adding ingredient and flavor labels to for

Speaker:

more information,

Speaker:

go to the ribbon print company.com.

Speaker:

And if you have these forecasts,

Speaker:

so let's see what they were talking about before you can

Speaker:

try figure out a way,

Speaker:

how could you connect?

Speaker:

How could you add more volume to them?

Speaker:

Right? If they previously talk about something similar or maybe connected

Speaker:

topics, just build up and put it in your page.

Speaker:

So it's like,

Speaker:

Hey, you are talking about this.

Speaker:

I really love that show.

Speaker:

And that can talk about a little bit more or different

Speaker:

angle. Maybe that could be one.

Speaker:

Or if you don't find that you just bring up those

Speaker:

topic Pitch would go through email.

Speaker:

Yes, it can go through email,

Speaker:

but there are podcasts where there's an application form.

Speaker:

You have to fill out detailed application forms.

Speaker:

So the hosts know about you and what you do up

Speaker:

front. So you can apply that way.

Speaker:

So go to the website and see if they have something.

Speaker:

Yes. And they specify like when they have a website and

Speaker:

there's a podcast page on their website.

Speaker:

So they specify you can apply to be a guest here.

Speaker:

So you just click on it and fill out the lengthy

Speaker:

forms. Usually they are quite long but detailed.

Speaker:

So they collect as much information as they can about you.

Speaker:

If there's no application form,

Speaker:

there's obviously you can email them and send them your pitch

Speaker:

or send them your one pager.

Speaker:

That's also really popular to prepare a one pager for yourself

Speaker:

and for your business.

Speaker:

And that would include also your bio,

Speaker:

your headshot topics,

Speaker:

talking points and social links.

Speaker:

It like on a one pager.

Speaker:

But you can put that in an email as well and

Speaker:

email it to the host too.

Speaker:

It's always depends what the host wants and what's their preference.

Speaker:

Yeah. So a one-page I know people are not going to

Speaker:

be familiar with this.

Speaker:

So one page is just a single sheet.

Speaker:

It has probably your picture.

Speaker:

I'd say for you guys,

Speaker:

probably a picture of your products,

Speaker:

maybe a little bit something in there,

Speaker:

but very,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

just a little bit on the top,

Speaker:

then all your contact information,

Speaker:

kind of a little bio about you,

Speaker:

the topics you can talk about.

Speaker:

Right. And social media links.

Speaker:

I think that's kind of,

Speaker:

what's included.

Speaker:

Oh. And if there are a couple of testimonials,

Speaker:

you include those in there too.

Speaker:

Yeah. If you can put that there too.

Speaker:

Yeah. That's a good idea.

Speaker:

So that everything is included on one page,

Speaker:

but you can always send an email as well.

Speaker:

If you don't have your one pager ready?

Speaker:

No worries.

Speaker:

You can still send an email to anyone.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

yes. They will read it or not.

Speaker:

Yeah. I mean,

Speaker:

I've had guests on the show that don't have a one

Speaker:

sheet. They send me an email.

Speaker:

They tell me why they would like to be on the

Speaker:

show a little bit about what they do.

Speaker:

I, from a podcast perspective,

Speaker:

try to figure out the angle.

Speaker:

What is going to be valuable to you guys who are

Speaker:

listening? What are you going to get out of it?

Speaker:

Because they of course want the visibility as would you.

Speaker:

Right. But I have to be loyal to you as a

Speaker:

listener. So think about that with your pitch is what is

Speaker:

the value going to be for the people who are listening

Speaker:

to their show,

Speaker:

you position and you phrase things that way of use to

Speaker:

them. I can't tell you how many pitches I get every

Speaker:

single day where obviously people have never listened to the show.

Speaker:

They have no idea who my audience is.

Speaker:

And I've gotten to the point now where I don't even

Speaker:

reply to some of them because it's just such a joke.

Speaker:

Like it's a fill in the blank.

Speaker:

They did no research.

Speaker:

I'm on a list somewhere or something.

Speaker:

And that's it.

Speaker:

It's crazy.

Speaker:

Yeah. We knew about it.

Speaker:

Like one of our clients is also a podcast host and

Speaker:

she's running like an e-commerce podcast.

Speaker:

And she got emails about people from like for yoga instructors

Speaker:

and stuff.

Speaker:

So it's like,

Speaker:

why don't you just,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

have listened to that book or just read the introduction on

Speaker:

iTunes, what that podcast is all about,

Speaker:

because it's so important and rude,

Speaker:

just waste other people's time with your emails.

Speaker:

If they're not the right match for you.

Speaker:

Right. That's why I started deleting them.

Speaker:

I don't even respond.

Speaker:

Actually. It just came up for the idea.

Speaker:

You mentioned yoga.

Speaker:

So it's so how do you craft these emails?

Speaker:

That, that could be one,

Speaker:

a little bit example.

Speaker:

So something like selling essential oils and yoga studios,

Speaker:

or maybe massage therapists that could be,

Speaker:

I think like a good clients or good type of shows.

Speaker:

So you can do something like how do you set the

Speaker:

mood with different type of pregnancies that could be maybe a

Speaker:

topic. So you just put it there,

Speaker:

Make it interesting.

Speaker:

Personalize it be unique,

Speaker:

creative. I mean,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

the artists,

Speaker:

crafters makers,

Speaker:

you are all creative people.

Speaker:

So just come up with creative ideas about how you can

Speaker:

attract that whole stand,

Speaker:

make your topics more interesting and unique.

Speaker:

Uniqueness's so important Again,

Speaker:

just like,

Speaker:

how can you have those listeners?

Speaker:

So how could you have them?

Speaker:

What can you teach them?

Speaker:

Maybe that's the way to think.

Speaker:

Right. Totally agree.

Speaker:

And you know,

Speaker:

the more work someone takes off of my shoulders,

Speaker:

the more interested I am,

Speaker:

they've already thought of a topic.

Speaker:

Maybe they thought of a topic I didn't even think of.

Speaker:

And I'm like,

Speaker:

yeah, I've never talked about that before.

Speaker:

And that would be really interesting to the show.

Speaker:

Do you remember knowing Amy a couple of years ago now?

Speaker:

I'm like,

Speaker:

I want to do something really fun for Christmas.

Speaker:

Like I don't want it to be business because we're in

Speaker:

the holidays.

Speaker:

And then one of the shows actually landed on Christmas day.

Speaker:

Right. And you're like,

Speaker:

let me give this some thought,

Speaker:

because it was way out of line with what I normally

Speaker:

do. And you brought me Heidi.

Speaker:

Yes. Our favorite British writer.

Speaker:

And she's been now on two Christmas episodes with two of

Speaker:

her books.

Speaker:

So like thinking in that way,

Speaker:

I would have never thought about that before,

Speaker:

but I gave you the idea and you came back with,

Speaker:

to me with the perfect solution.

Speaker:

I have all her books stacked in my bedroom.

Speaker:

Same here.

Speaker:

I love it.

Speaker:

Yeah. I just read her latest book now.

Speaker:

Oh, I haven't gotten that one yet.

Speaker:

I have a big backlog,

Speaker:

but it's coming.

Speaker:

Cause I won't read Christmas books if it's out of the

Speaker:

season. So I'm reading all of the non Christmas books and

Speaker:

then the Christmas books have to wait until like November.

Speaker:

Yeah. Now you have to focus on the summer one because

Speaker:

this is a good Vanessa.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

We'll do.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So we send the email then let's just fast forward.

Speaker:

You wait for a response.

Speaker:

If you don't get a response in a couple of days,

Speaker:

follow up again,

Speaker:

they might not have seen the email start to try and

Speaker:

develop a relationship a little bit with them.

Speaker:

And now someone says,

Speaker:

yes, I would love to invite you onto the show.

Speaker:

And so every single show has different ways of setting up.

Speaker:

Like I have my certain process.

Speaker:

So you would just follow whatever directions they would tell you

Speaker:

for the show.

Speaker:

What would your advice be?

Speaker:

Because people are going to be nervous,

Speaker:

right? Some podcasts are audio.

Speaker:

Only. Some are video and audio.

Speaker:

Some are video while they're recording,

Speaker:

but they only actually do the audio.

Speaker:

And you'll know that by having research the shows,

Speaker:

the different shows,

Speaker:

but what's your advice to people who are anxious,

Speaker:

they've wanted to do it.

Speaker:

But now all of a sudden they've got a booking and

Speaker:

they're like,

Speaker:

oh no.

Speaker:

Now I'm actually going to be a guest.

Speaker:

Any advice for preparation and mental mindset work or more?

Speaker:

What, what do you say to that?

Speaker:

Obviously try to,

Speaker:

before you go on interview on that day,

Speaker:

I think just go through your topics and talking points and

Speaker:

just sit down and think about what you're going to say.

Speaker:

You can make notes and you can put up on your

Speaker:

wall or the way to help you.

Speaker:

You don't have to nail it.

Speaker:

It's not about like,

Speaker:

just wing everything.

Speaker:

Be prepared.

Speaker:

Even if it's a conversation,

Speaker:

you always have to be prepared because it gives you comfort

Speaker:

and it gives you security.

Speaker:

So as you're more prepared,

Speaker:

you're getting more relaxed.

Speaker:

And when you get in touch with podcasts,

Speaker:

try to focus on the smaller one middle sized ones.

Speaker:

Don't go for the biggest ones because when you make mistakes

Speaker:

or because we all do make mistakes on shows and we

Speaker:

are not perfect for the first time or for the second

Speaker:

time, just practice in on smaller shows and work it in

Speaker:

your niche.

Speaker:

And you're going to build,

Speaker:

you're going to be fine,

Speaker:

but you have to practice like one after the other.

Speaker:

And don't expect like a huge follower number or sales number

Speaker:

after your very first interview,

Speaker:

because it's not going to happen.

Speaker:

Obviously you might be lucky and you get sales or something

Speaker:

out of it,

Speaker:

but you just have to be consistent and keep doing it.

Speaker:

So that's why it's good to start with smaller podcast middle-sized

Speaker:

podcasts and just keep doing them.

Speaker:

And you get into the practice into the habit and you're

Speaker:

just getting better and better show by show.

Speaker:

Right? And also this is just like attracting anybody else to

Speaker:

your business.

Speaker:

They might not be in the position right now where they

Speaker:

need what you sell,

Speaker:

but now you've got them in your ecosphere.

Speaker:

So if they've come over,

Speaker:

let's say at the end of the show,

Speaker:

because usually they will ask you,

Speaker:

well, how can people get in touch with you?

Speaker:

Which you're going to see demonstrated at the end of this

Speaker:

show. And if you've listened to the other podcasts,

Speaker:

everyone does that.

Speaker:

So the listeners have linkage to you.

Speaker:

If they want to,

Speaker:

they come over to your website,

Speaker:

maybe you've offered a freebie,

Speaker:

as Gabor was talking about,

Speaker:

or they come over to your website and you have 10%

Speaker:

off your first order,

Speaker:

whatever it is now they're on your email list,

Speaker:

right? But remember,

Speaker:

this is just like anything else.

Speaker:

You've gotten them in the top of your funnel.

Speaker:

And now it's the regular communication.

Speaker:

It's them being on social with you.

Speaker:

It's all of that.

Speaker:

That leads them into buying the sale.

Speaker:

So don't get discouraged if you're on a show and you

Speaker:

don't get any sales,

Speaker:

you've gotten people in an to know you.

Speaker:

So that's really important.

Speaker:

And I think also at the very end,

Speaker:

give some thought to where you want to send people.

Speaker:

And the one thing I don't like you tell me how

Speaker:

you guys feel about this.

Speaker:

When people rattle off a whole list of everything that they

Speaker:

do and you can't remember anything.

Speaker:

So if you have the same name on everything,

Speaker:

like let's say Andy jewelry,

Speaker:

okay? I'm an jewelry.com.

Speaker:

I'm an jewelry on Facebook,

Speaker:

Instagram, wherever.

Speaker:

Okay. That's easy.

Speaker:

I can remember Anne's jewelry.

Speaker:

Cause remember listeners aren't necessarily sitting with a pen and paper

Speaker:

to capture all this information.

Speaker:

They out walking,

Speaker:

they're folding laundry.

Speaker:

Maybe people are in production.

Speaker:

I'm thinking a lot of you guys are producing things while

Speaker:

you're listening to this.

Speaker:

So make it something that's memorable enough because truth be told

Speaker:

not many people go back to the show notes,

Speaker:

they're there and they're available.

Speaker:

But the majority of people won't.

Speaker:

So give a lot of thought to where do you want

Speaker:

to send them?

Speaker:

That's memorable.

Speaker:

Don't be like it's and jewelry.com

Speaker:

on the website.

Speaker:

It and dash jewelry on Facebook.

Speaker:

It's at and dash dash jewelry and Instagram,

Speaker:

because then people get lost like blurry.

Speaker:

So something very clear.

Speaker:

Any other suggestions for as you're signing off what to do?

Speaker:

Yeah. I think that could work.

Speaker:

Or even if you want to track your performance or podcast,

Speaker:

you can make a landing page.

Speaker:

Let's see Angela erie.com

Speaker:

or a slash podcasts or free something like that.

Speaker:

So a landing page,

Speaker:

and you can see the people coming through there.

Speaker:

So that could be a way to track your success.

Speaker:

Yeah. That's podcasting two point,

Speaker:

oh, It's a little bit hard to track,

Speaker:

but it's possible.

Speaker:

But if you're working with someone who helps you find guesting

Speaker:

opportunities, lots of times they'll help you set that type of

Speaker:

thing up.

Speaker:

So if you have no idea what we're talking about,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

it depends on whether you're doing it yourself,

Speaker:

which you actually absolutely can.

Speaker:

Or if you're doing it through someone who's helping you find

Speaker:

the guests,

Speaker:

they can also help you.

Speaker:

Many of them can setting those things up.

Speaker:

And then anything else about during the podcast interview,

Speaker:

anything we missed Just to mention some technical stuff also important.

Speaker:

So being on a quiet place,

Speaker:

like in a room,

Speaker:

in an office,

Speaker:

so it's not in the car,

Speaker:

not at the airport,

Speaker:

not in a taxi,

Speaker:

not in an Uber,

Speaker:

not in a restaurant.

Speaker:

That's a no,

Speaker:

it's a quiet place.

Speaker:

And technically you need some kind of,

Speaker:

which is not your phone or not your PC.

Speaker:

You can have it under $50,

Speaker:

under a hundred.

Speaker:

You can have a decent microphone for podcasting,

Speaker:

for video.

Speaker:

You can have a lot and don't forget to plug it

Speaker:

in as I did.

Speaker:

So platforms that's one just for the sake of the quality

Speaker:

of the show.

Speaker:

Yeah. You know what I have found also though,

Speaker:

cause I don't want you guys to feel inhibited either.

Speaker:

If you're a guest,

Speaker:

you shouldn't do this as your host.

Speaker:

But if you're a guest,

Speaker:

I found that the iPhone earbuds with the little mic is

Speaker:

excellent. In fact,

Speaker:

sometimes I've found that the mic that's in the room is

Speaker:

not as good of quality as the earbuds.

Speaker:

So nice to have both of those available.

Speaker:

Yeah. Charge everything off.

Speaker:

So before the interview,

Speaker:

that's All,

Speaker:

you can put your ear buds into the computer too.

Speaker:

Yeah. Yeah,

Speaker:

exactly. So anything else for the setup and preparing and Yeah.

Speaker:

If you can do,

Speaker:

like we have here in our home office,

Speaker:

like cushions and soft furnishing and everything and carpets because it

Speaker:

makes the sound much better and no echo at all.

Speaker:

And so that's important.

Speaker:

So hopefully there's no echo here either.

Speaker:

No, it sounds great.

Speaker:

And honestly,

Speaker:

some people will go even into a closet.

Speaker:

That's not good for video,

Speaker:

but otherwise if you're not doing video,

Speaker:

just some small room,

Speaker:

the more soft things around you,

Speaker:

also the better,

Speaker:

but don't freak out about all this setup stuff,

Speaker:

have a mic or apple earbuds,

Speaker:

because those are the best in terms of like the more

Speaker:

portable mic get in a room that's a little bit softer.

Speaker:

I don't know how else to say it or adding pillows.

Speaker:

Like you said,

Speaker:

bringing in a bunch of pillows from your whole house again,

Speaker:

if it's not video or you could just throw them on

Speaker:

the floor probably.

Speaker:

Right. That's What you're doing right now.

Speaker:

I see pillows on the couch behind you,

Speaker:

but I don't see anything on the phone.

Speaker:

They always there,

Speaker:

but we do have a couple of them on the floor.

Speaker:

Ah ha.

Speaker:

Okay. Anything else about the actual setup part that we need

Speaker:

to cover?

Speaker:

I think when you get all this ready,

Speaker:

I think you are just good to go.

Speaker:

I mean it's nothing special to get started.

Speaker:

Yeah. I think you just get ready to turn your phone

Speaker:

off or to take it out of your displays because,

Speaker:

or, and shut down everything on your computer,

Speaker:

LinkedIn messages,

Speaker:

Facebook alerts,

Speaker:

anything that would disturb.

Speaker:

Yeah. You don't want beeps buzzes any of that as a

Speaker:

distraction, lots of times the host will kind of do a

Speaker:

little run through with you too,

Speaker:

just to make sure that you've remembered to do that.

Speaker:

And heaven forbid it doesn't,

Speaker:

that's the way it goes.

Speaker:

Like it is what it is.

Speaker:

Don't even worry about it.

Speaker:

Do the best you can to prepare,

Speaker:

but don't get freaked out about that part and make that

Speaker:

be a barrier for you doing this,

Speaker:

I guess is my point.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So excellent podcast interview.

Speaker:

You get off your first of all,

Speaker:

so relieved that it's over your first one,

Speaker:

but you're really excited.

Speaker:

And now all the work is on the host side for

Speaker:

editing, getting it all up,

Speaker:

et cetera.

Speaker:

Then what The rinse and repeat a couple of times.

Speaker:

Yeah. Get on more shows.

Speaker:

And then the very first one that you did may air

Speaker:

sometimes the very next week.

Speaker:

Sometimes it might not air for three months or so,

Speaker:

but really important to do is when the show airs most

Speaker:

of the time,

Speaker:

they'll tell you I've had one recently that didn't even tell

Speaker:

me that it aired,

Speaker:

but most of the time they'll tell you,

Speaker:

they'll also like we will send graphics to our guests so

Speaker:

that they'll be able to promote it.

Speaker:

But don't miss this step just because you now have been

Speaker:

on somebody's show,

Speaker:

it's the polite and right thing to do to help promote

Speaker:

the show.

Speaker:

I will be promoting all my shows.

Speaker:

I send guests graphics.

Speaker:

You guys of course know this.

Speaker:

And as a guest,

Speaker:

you should also be promoting with your audience.

Speaker:

First off,

Speaker:

it builds credibility for you.

Speaker:

And it also leads more people to the show,

Speaker:

which is really a thank you to the host.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

you hear on all podcasts,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

please rate and review the show.

Speaker:

And when people say that,

Speaker:

that's because they're trying to get more listeners.

Speaker:

And so as being invited as a guest,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

like when you are invited to a party,

Speaker:

what do you do when you leave?

Speaker:

You say,

Speaker:

thank you with so much fun.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

whatever sharing the podcast is like your thank you to the

Speaker:

host. So remember to do that also,

Speaker:

and then once that's done,

Speaker:

then your job is done with that whole podcast.

Speaker:

Right? And now you probably would have some in play.

Speaker:

Like we're talking about rinse and repeat,

Speaker:

go through the process again,

Speaker:

you might be offered to be on two or three and

Speaker:

they'll all be in different stages based on timing of when

Speaker:

the actual interview is going to take place.

Speaker:

And then when it actually errors,

Speaker:

but just don't forget to do all of these parts.

Speaker:

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker:

It's as you mentioned it,

Speaker:

it's just building the credibility and authority.

Speaker:

That's an idea.

Speaker:

So we can take a screenshot last.

Speaker:

So we are on your podcast so we can take a

Speaker:

screenshot and post it on social media where we were just

Speaker:

talking about Sue and they invited to the show.

Speaker:

So that's of other ones,

Speaker:

Is this just like a teaser?

Speaker:

And then you're going to send the graphics and I'm going

Speaker:

to LinkedIn and Facebook.

Speaker:

So yeah.

Speaker:

And I'm creating content and you help me to create content.

Speaker:

So I don't have to bother with it because you already

Speaker:

created cool content and graphics for us and just use that.

Speaker:

And not only once,

Speaker:

but you post it now and you can post it in

Speaker:

like two weeks time,

Speaker:

a month time as well.

Speaker:

So, Right.

Speaker:

Cause remember that show lives on forever.

Speaker:

And if you really like what you produced,

Speaker:

you can also ask,

Speaker:

put it on your website.

Speaker:

And what you'd get then is you could create your own

Speaker:

image. So it's in line with your branding.

Speaker:

If you wanted to,

Speaker:

or you could use one of the images that they gave

Speaker:

you and then what would happen is they don't give you

Speaker:

the audio file.

Speaker:

We as podcast host own all of our audio,

Speaker:

what you'd have is a link to your show on your

Speaker:

website. So I don't know of anybody who wouldn't want to

Speaker:

do that because that gives more listeners and more attention to

Speaker:

the show as well.

Speaker:

And it gives you credibility,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

how people will put like in the news sections,

Speaker:

on the websites,

Speaker:

things like that.

Speaker:

So that's an opportunity for you as well.

Speaker:

Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker:

We give that idea.

Speaker:

We give that advice to our clients as well and more

Speaker:

and more are accepting this and they are preparing a website

Speaker:

for all the shows they've run because it's a win-win situation

Speaker:

for them,

Speaker:

for the hosts.

Speaker:

Backlink building everything.

Speaker:

Yeah. Actually I think a couple of our clients just made

Speaker:

a list like in the media media.

Speaker:

So there's a full list of forecast.

Speaker:

It looks like with their own branding,

Speaker:

but it looks like a podcast page actually on your west

Speaker:

side, but it's like on differentials and then you can click

Speaker:

on it and listen to maybe on a media player or

Speaker:

listen to the host website.

Speaker:

So yeah,

Speaker:

that's a little bit just so you as a content.

Speaker:

Okay. So let's wind this down here with a summary from

Speaker:

you as to the value of being a guest on a

Speaker:

podcast and any final words in that front that you would

Speaker:

have for everyone who's listening.

Speaker:

That's obvious as an it management,

Speaker:

it's give you the outer reality.

Speaker:

That's credibility.

Speaker:

You were speaking.

Speaker:

And obviously don't forget you're delivering value to other people's listeners.

Speaker:

So they have to come to you.

Speaker:

If you want to know more about you,

Speaker:

your product and find out more about you in the longer

Speaker:

term, there's a way so it's okay.

Speaker:

I think we mentioned the link building as well.

Speaker:

So you get back link from show notes,

Speaker:

You're getting visibility,

Speaker:

your network,

Speaker:

We network,

Speaker:

maybe you go on a show and you can wholesale to

Speaker:

someone because they don't in the store.

Speaker:

And these are evergreen,

Speaker:

as we've said several times.

Speaker:

So the work that you're putting in isn't for a one

Speaker:

and done situation,

Speaker:

I have people coming back and maybe you're a first time

Speaker:

listener and this is the first show you've ever heard.

Speaker:

And you liking what you're hearing.

Speaker:

And you're like,

Speaker:

well, what else is in that podcast?

Speaker:

And then you go back and you look at different titles

Speaker:

and you listen to different things.

Speaker:

And that will happen with your show too,

Speaker:

when you're in the lineup for someone else's podcast.

Speaker:

So that's also the value of being on multiple shows because

Speaker:

it just keeps building over time.

Speaker:

And where can our listeners go to learn more about you?

Speaker:

The most important places,

Speaker:

our website,

Speaker:

which is podcast connections,

Speaker:

dot co.

Speaker:

So that's the best place to visit us.

Speaker:

Wonderful. Well,

Speaker:

thank you so much for that.

Speaker:

And this has been really fabulous because I know,

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

everyone's about podcasts.

Speaker:

Like we talked about in the beginning and for this industry

Speaker:

in particular and thinking people are like,

Speaker:

they're either going all in for the wrong reasons.

Speaker:

Thinking I'm going to start a podcast,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

without really thinking it through and then stopping within the first

Speaker:

seven episodes or they've never ever thought about the opportunity that

Speaker:

could be available for guests stain.

Speaker:

So this is a great conversation,

Speaker:

opens up our minds to different things that we can be

Speaker:

doing and all of the steps that you've shared in terms

Speaker:

of how to get started,

Speaker:

how to make contact,

Speaker:

how to prepare,

Speaker:

how to make it live on in the future.

Speaker:

And thank the host.

Speaker:

None of that is hard to do.

Speaker:

You just have to decide to do it.

Speaker:

That's it.

Speaker:

And the other thing is the whole people too,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

get connected with them on LinkedIn,

Speaker:

for example,

Speaker:

this is a great platform for us.

Speaker:

Get in touch with them,

Speaker:

tell them that you like the episode,

Speaker:

one of their episodes,

Speaker:

or why do you like their shows and get in touch

Speaker:

with them on LinkedIn or on Facebook and get,

Speaker:

start talking with them.

Speaker:

It's so important to get,

Speaker:

to make connections.

Speaker:

And it just not about your business and not talk about

Speaker:

yourself, but also host,

Speaker:

do you accept guests right now?

Speaker:

Or I do this and that,

Speaker:

would you be interested in having me on your show?

Speaker:

We just ask them.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

we are all people,

Speaker:

we just communicate with each other and then we find out

Speaker:

if they want you or not.

Speaker:

Yeah. The value of relationships is everything.

Speaker:

It goes so underutilized and it's just so powerful.

Speaker:

So absolutely agree.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

Thank you so much.

Speaker:

I really,

Speaker:

really appreciate your time today being on the show.

Speaker:

And I think we've opened up some minds of people about

Speaker:

podcasting. So have a great day.

Speaker:

Speaker:

sir. Thank you for having us by.

Speaker:
