Speaker:

Your gift biz.

Speaker:

Here is your host gift biz gal,

Speaker:

Sue moon Heights.

Speaker:

Hi there.

Speaker:

It's Sue and I am really excited that you're joining me

Speaker:

here today because you caught the episode where I'm debuting a

Speaker:

new show format called the gift biz boost.

Speaker:

What's a boost.

Speaker:

It's your chance to listen in while I address a current

Speaker:

issue faced by one of your fellow handmade makers too often,

Speaker:

we stall in one area of our business where if we

Speaker:

can just get past the block,

Speaker:

it will open the path to new business growth.

Speaker:

That's what this is all about.

Speaker:

To give a boost and clear the way for the next

Speaker:

big move at the end of the show,

Speaker:

I'll tell you how you can sign up for your own

Speaker:

gift biz boost.

Speaker:

Today, we're talking with Gloria King of Kings gift baskets.

Speaker:

She's been in business for a while,

Speaker:

but as can happen in life,

Speaker:

things have changed and her business needs to change along with

Speaker:

it. She'll tell you more about this.

Speaker:

And then we get into an audio website review.

Speaker:

I give her three specific tweaks that she can make right

Speaker:

away that will further attract online activity,

Speaker:

ready to experience the first boost.

Speaker:

Welcome to our first gift biz boost.

Speaker:

I am so excited to be doing these because so many

Speaker:

of you have told me,

Speaker:

there's just this one thing that you're stuck on.

Speaker:

That if you can overcome this one thing,

Speaker:

it can make a difference in your business.

Speaker:

So towards that end,

Speaker:

I've created these gift biz boosts,

Speaker:

and you're going to hear from Gloria King,

Speaker:

we're going to get into everything about Gloria in a minute,

Speaker:

we will be talking with her about how to specifically grow

Speaker:

her business through her website.

Speaker:

But before we get into all of that though,

Speaker:

Gloria first,

Speaker:

welcome to the first gift biz boost and share with us

Speaker:

a little bit about who you are and your business.

Speaker:

Well, hello,

Speaker:

Sue. Thanks for having me.

Speaker:

I'm Gloria King with Kings gift baskets and we're located in

Speaker:

the Myrtle beach,

Speaker:

South Carolina area where we help our customers through gifting.

Speaker:

And how have you been in business?

Speaker:

We've been in business since 2015.

Speaker:

Okay. So sometime now,

Speaker:

which you know is a perfect example because just because you've

Speaker:

had a lot of years in,

Speaker:

we all face new challenges,

Speaker:

new things that affect our life and our business.

Speaker:

And we can all use a boost from time to time,

Speaker:

right? So it's a good example that it's not just people

Speaker:

who are new people who have been in business for quite

Speaker:

a while.

Speaker:

Same thing.

Speaker:

We're all working on our businesses and progressing them to make

Speaker:

them better fit our goals,

Speaker:

et cetera.

Speaker:

Share with me a little bit about where you're at with

Speaker:

the business and why you wanted to talk today.

Speaker:

Where I am is needing more cells.

Speaker:

And I believe doing the website will help me get there.

Speaker:

I've come across some health issues that are transitioning through everything

Speaker:

as well.

Speaker:

Things get pastors is planning to be here for a long

Speaker:

time, but nevertheless,

Speaker:

it has caused me to have some employees now,

Speaker:

and I need to just really concentrate on the website where

Speaker:

I'm not doing as much in person marketing and those things

Speaker:

as I've done in the past.

Speaker:

Okay. First of all,

Speaker:

love hearing that everything is going to be fine.

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

I've known you for a while and I've seen you in

Speaker:

business for a while.

Speaker:

So just even as a friend,

Speaker:

I'm so thrilled to hear that.

Speaker:

So I can't let that comment pass without me saying something

Speaker:

about that.

Speaker:

So you're seeing right now,

Speaker:

you've had to do a couple of things first off,

Speaker:

you've had to hire some people and we won't go into

Speaker:

that today because I want to focus on your website,

Speaker:

but that's always such an obstacle.

Speaker:

Like, I feel like it's a mental barrier for people that

Speaker:

bringing in somebody to do or make,

Speaker:

or run your business in any way,

Speaker:

shape or form.

Speaker:

You never feel like people can take your baby and do

Speaker:

with it as you can.

Speaker:

Right. Right.

Speaker:

What would you say to people of,

Speaker:

how did you get over that?

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

you were kind of forced into it,

Speaker:

but what would you say You're right.

Speaker:

I was forced into it,

Speaker:

but I would say fear not,

Speaker:

I mean,

Speaker:

it's just gift baskets and it'll be okay.

Speaker:

You just take the leap and you just have to trust

Speaker:

and know that you can show them whatever it is that

Speaker:

you're wanting them to accomplish.

Speaker:

And it can be baby small steps,

Speaker:

but just taking note of everything that has to be done

Speaker:

throughout the business.

Speaker:

And definitely you will see a growth in your business.

Speaker:

So would you say now you wish you would have done

Speaker:

it earlier?

Speaker:

Yes. Without a doubt.

Speaker:

I kind of know y'all were going to say that.

Speaker:

Okay. So just having some issues where you're needing now to

Speaker:

be more at home for the time being,

Speaker:

versus being out,

Speaker:

maybe doing face-to-face shows,

Speaker:

going to networking,

Speaker:

et cetera.

Speaker:

You're relying now more online to get business.

Speaker:

Is that a fair statement?

Speaker:

Yep. Okay.

Speaker:

And tell us a little bit about history of your website.

Speaker:

When did you put it up?

Speaker:

What platform is it on?

Speaker:

Let's start with that.

Speaker:

It's been up for awhile.

Speaker:

I've tried different types of platforms in the past,

Speaker:

but right now I'm currently with Weebly And you're feeling comfortable

Speaker:

with it.

Speaker:

You know how to navigate it and work with it and

Speaker:

all. Yes.

Speaker:

Perfect. Okay.

Speaker:

What's your approach to the website?

Speaker:

Meaning how often do you go in and adjust anything,

Speaker:

add things?

Speaker:

Any of that?

Speaker:

It's not as often as it should be.

Speaker:

I would say that a person needs to go into their

Speaker:

website if at all possible a couple of times a week.

Speaker:

Not unless they have just one particular product and they're not

Speaker:

really adding a whole lot,

Speaker:

but right now I'm not on the website as often as

Speaker:

I should be.

Speaker:

Okay. And with the website in particular,

Speaker:

where are you getting sales?

Speaker:

Are you getting orders through the website?

Speaker:

I do get some orders through the website,

Speaker:

but I do get a lot of calls.

Speaker:

I get more people calling and wanting to place an order

Speaker:

than just placing the order off of the website.

Speaker:

But then I have quite a few people that know that

Speaker:

I do gift baskets and they'll just call and say,

Speaker:

I want a basket for a closing,

Speaker:

or I want,

Speaker:

I'm coming to town.

Speaker:

I found you on Google.

Speaker:

I need 12 baskets delivered to this hotel.

Speaker:

Okay. They found you on Google because of your web.

Speaker:

So your website does initiate the call?

Speaker:

Yes. Probably because they're custom orders,

Speaker:

right. They're not seeing what necessarily they need on the website.

Speaker:

And so they're calling you?

Speaker:

Yes. Okay.

Speaker:

And so what types of customers are you looking to attract?

Speaker:

I would love to have,

Speaker:

if it's two customers that I could pick,

Speaker:

I would pick realtors,

Speaker:

more realtors,

Speaker:

but also more event planners,

Speaker:

people that are coming to the area.

Speaker:

Maybe it's a wedding or some type of conference.

Speaker:

Okay. And what about just direct to consumer?

Speaker:

That's fine as well.

Speaker:

I do have quite a few of those,

Speaker:

but I didn't want to pick,

Speaker:

I just try to narrow it down,

Speaker:

but yes.

Speaker:

But if you could,

Speaker:

you would be focusing more on realtors and event planners.

Speaker:

Yes. Okay.

Speaker:

And are you seeing that those are the people who are

Speaker:

currently calling you now?

Speaker:

Yes. Is that from your prior networking,

Speaker:

do you think?

Speaker:

So the event planners,

Speaker:

I want to say that's more through Google.

Speaker:

The realtors are more through networking.

Speaker:

Okay. And by Google,

Speaker:

we probably mean they're searching for somebody in your area and

Speaker:

then your coming up as the website and then they're placing

Speaker:

a call to you.

Speaker:

Yes. Okay.

Speaker:

Wonderful. And when you think of your website,

Speaker:

I'm just curious from your perspective,

Speaker:

what do you think could be improved?

Speaker:

I would think some of the pitchers can be improved or

Speaker:

some, the products that I offer can also be improved because

Speaker:

I do so many custom.

Speaker:

I know that I can have a broader base for the

Speaker:

client to choose from.

Speaker:

You are in a really good position,

Speaker:

Gloria, because you have a lot of established business strengths already.

Speaker:

I don't know if you've seen this,

Speaker:

but I have now broken down the evolution of a business

Speaker:

into five different business growth stages and your right where the

Speaker:

majority of people are,

Speaker:

it's called making it real and then upping the game,

Speaker:

making it real is really establishing and having in your business

Speaker:

and upping the game is adding in all of these layers,

Speaker:

like social media site website,

Speaker:

et cetera,

Speaker:

people will jump back and forth between the two of these

Speaker:

also adds things,

Speaker:

change new social media platforms,

Speaker:

come up.

Speaker:

That type of thing.

Speaker:

There's always the time to continue making it real because you're

Speaker:

putting these things in place.

Speaker:

So you're right between making it real,

Speaker:

upping the game and kind of going back and forth between

Speaker:

the two,

Speaker:

which is where I say 60 to 70% of all people

Speaker:

who are in business fall.

Speaker:

Okay. So you're right in with the majority,

Speaker:

if that gives you any solace and comfort.

Speaker:

So I did take the Liberty of looking at your website

Speaker:

and I mean,

Speaker:

honestly you have a lot of the elements there that you

Speaker:

need. I think you can just,

Speaker:

like I was saying up the game a little bit on

Speaker:

your website,

Speaker:

and I'll tell you specifically where I see this to happen

Speaker:

now, because we're doing this as a podcast.

Speaker:

And not everybody,

Speaker:

even though we're recording this also through video,

Speaker:

not everyone would have the opportunity to be able to see

Speaker:

if I pulled up the website.

Speaker:

I'm just going to talk us through this.

Speaker:

Okay. The very first thing that we have to worry about

Speaker:

with a website is what's the first impression when someone lands

Speaker:

there, have you heard of the term bounce rate where people

Speaker:

will come onto your website,

Speaker:

take a look for a second and then automatically leave.

Speaker:

You want to make sure that when people get to your

Speaker:

website and land there for the first time,

Speaker:

first off,

Speaker:

they know they've gotten to the right place.

Speaker:

Okay. They,

Speaker:

they know that it's you and they know that what you

Speaker:

offer is what they need.

Speaker:

And I'd say you're probably 50 to 60% there because when

Speaker:

you land on your website,

Speaker:

it's very clear that you're doing gift baskets and your navigation

Speaker:

is pretty good navigation,

Speaker:

meaning what's up at the top of the website.

Speaker:

So if people were looking for something specific,

Speaker:

your navigation bars,

Speaker:

are there,

Speaker:

the one thing that I think that you could improve right

Speaker:

away is that first image that you have there,

Speaker:

which is a scroller.

Speaker:

I want to describe it to everybody.

Speaker:

It scrolls through some of the different areas and customer types

Speaker:

that you service.

Speaker:

And it has to do more with the sizing of the

Speaker:

image than anything else.

Speaker:

When I pull it up on my computer here,

Speaker:

the image is so big.

Speaker:

I can't even see it all on one screen.

Speaker:

I have to scroll down to see the whole image.

Speaker:

Okay. So I think if you re sized that you'll attract

Speaker:

more interest,

Speaker:

when people go,

Speaker:

when people get there,

Speaker:

the other thing I would do is probably right above that

Speaker:

image. Like,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

an image doesn't always have to be as big as you

Speaker:

can make it.

Speaker:

You want it as big as going to be visually appealing

Speaker:

for the people that are coming to the website.

Speaker:

Right. But then above there,

Speaker:

I would say something like,

Speaker:

oh, welcome to King's gift baskets,

Speaker:

maybe serving what area or some type of an introduction,

Speaker:

welcome message.

Speaker:

Like if someone comes to your house and you open the

Speaker:

front door,

Speaker:

you don't just stand there,

Speaker:

quiet. Right.

Speaker:

You see something.

Speaker:

So your pictures already say something.

Speaker:

So you could either put the wording inside some of those

Speaker:

pictures, or just put a little bit of text,

Speaker:

not a lot,

Speaker:

just a little bit on the top and then let the

Speaker:

pictures scroll by another thing to check.

Speaker:

And it looks pretty good on your website is sometimes when

Speaker:

you do these,

Speaker:

scrollers it affects the loading time of the site.

Speaker:

In other words,

Speaker:

it takes a while for it to load.

Speaker:

And I would check just to make sure that you're okay,

Speaker:

looks fine on my end,

Speaker:

but check it out on your phone,

Speaker:

check it out on someone else.

Speaker:

I call a couple of friends,

Speaker:

ask them to look at it and just see how long

Speaker:

it takes to load up.

Speaker:

Just make sure that that's good.

Speaker:

Then I think there are some things that you can do

Speaker:

for the experience of your viewer on that home page.

Speaker:

I'm not going to go into all of that now,

Speaker:

because I don't want to give you too many things to

Speaker:

work on.

Speaker:

And there's a couple other things I'd like you to affect

Speaker:

on the homepage.

Speaker:

But I do think way at the bottom,

Speaker:

you have your contact me form,

Speaker:

but you also have on the top navigation contact me.

Speaker:

So I would pull that off the front page.

Speaker:

You don't need it in both places.

Speaker:

Okay? There's some other things that you could possibly do on

Speaker:

your home page to bring more richness to it.

Speaker:

And maybe what to do for the time being is look

Speaker:

and see what other sites are doing.

Speaker:

Kind of like a little bit of telling maybe the story

Speaker:

of the business you are showing your gift baskets right upfront.

Speaker:

So I don't think you need to have a ton of

Speaker:

gift basket images,

Speaker:

but maybe you can fancy up the homepage,

Speaker:

add a little bit more personality into it,

Speaker:

but the most important thing.

Speaker:

And the one point I want you to think of is

Speaker:

the resizing of that first image.

Speaker:

So it all fits when someone jumps on there,

Speaker:

there's a nice little welcome message.

Speaker:

And then you,

Speaker:

I think just shrink that image.

Speaker:

So someone doesn't have to scroll down to have the whole

Speaker:

experience and that I think for the time being would be

Speaker:

enough for the homepage and the reason why you're making effects

Speaker:

like that is you want as many people who come to

Speaker:

your homepage.

Speaker:

And it sounds like you are driving traffic there because you're

Speaker:

getting phone calls off of it.

Speaker:

But you want people to be able to go and look

Speaker:

around and see more of what you're about and not leave,

Speaker:

not bounce off.

Speaker:

I don't know if you've looked at any analytics to see

Speaker:

how people are bouncing.

Speaker:

Have you looked at your analytics at all?

Speaker:

No, I haven't.

Speaker:

Okay. This is a point for next stage.

Speaker:

Google analytics are changing.

Speaker:

So if you've never done a Google analytics before don't go

Speaker:

back and try to figure out the old analytics,

Speaker:

you can start a Google analytics account it's totally free and

Speaker:

get that connected with your page so it can start tracking

Speaker:

things for you.

Speaker:

I do have it and have it connected.

Speaker:

I just never really studied it or anything.

Speaker:

Okay. So now what you want to do is go and

Speaker:

get the new one.

Speaker:

It's called GA for it's very easy.

Speaker:

If you've connected at once,

Speaker:

you can connect it again.

Speaker:

They can run simultaneously,

Speaker:

but come next July.

Speaker:

So July 20,

Speaker:

23, the old Google analytics is a hundred percent going away.

Speaker:

So if you get the new one connected,

Speaker:

now, then you'll start tracking information from starting now and you'll

Speaker:

be all set moving forward.

Speaker:

So I am going to make mention that,

Speaker:

yes, you're at home because you have to be now because

Speaker:

you're still healing,

Speaker:

but this is a great time to be doing all this

Speaker:

stuff. Because when you get back out,

Speaker:

you'll be back out networking and doing shows and all of

Speaker:

that. And you won't do any of this other stuff at

Speaker:

home. Take that positive side of the situation.

Speaker:

That was 0.1

Speaker:

for the homepage.

Speaker:

Second thing,

Speaker:

I'd say another very easy addition that you can make to

Speaker:

your website is I want you to enhance your about page.

Speaker:

It has the Q and a,

Speaker:

and then if I click on the Q and a,

Speaker:

it says about shipping about this,

Speaker:

about that,

Speaker:

about that's all fine,

Speaker:

but what I would also do,

Speaker:

I think if I just click on the first part,

Speaker:

it does show a really great picture of you.

Speaker:

But I want to hear some personality.

Speaker:

Like I want to know more from like the standpoint that

Speaker:

you're talking to a person coming to your about page,

Speaker:

who wants to know more about you.

Speaker:

So it's not glorious started this business in 2015,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

like it's not that formal resume type thing.

Speaker:

It's like,

Speaker:

hi. So glad you're here with me on my page.

Speaker:

I'm so excited to tell you more about gift baskets and

Speaker:

what they can do to show appreciation.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

whatever you want to say,

Speaker:

you don't do a whole big long thing.

Speaker:

It's just a friendly,

Speaker:

welcoming. If you met a friend of yours from high school

Speaker:

that you haven't seen forever.

Speaker:

And they said,

Speaker:

oh my gosh,

Speaker:

King's gift baskets.

Speaker:

How cool,

Speaker:

what made you start that?

Speaker:

Gloria, answer that question on your homepage.

Speaker:

Okay. It adds more personality.

Speaker:

And what it starts to do is it separates your website

Speaker:

from other gift websites out there.

Speaker:

So that's the second thing I want you to do.

Speaker:

Just make it more personal.

Speaker:

And you can also go and look through some of the

Speaker:

wording on your site.

Speaker:

Talk like you're with one person you're looking at one person

Speaker:

you're talking to one person and you're not a big corporation

Speaker:

talking. You're Gloria talking.

Speaker:

Okay. Which gets me to the third.

Speaker:

And my favorite thing about your website,

Speaker:

Gloria. You're doing a blog.

Speaker:

Oh yeah.

Speaker:

It's so good.

Speaker:

It is so good that you're doing a blog and you've

Speaker:

been consistent.

Speaker:

It looks like an article a month.

Speaker:

Ish. Yeah.

Speaker:

This I think is why you're being seen on Google and

Speaker:

you're getting the phone calls.

Speaker:

And I've been talking a lot about this in gift biz

Speaker:

overall on the podcast,

Speaker:

in the group,

Speaker:

all over the value of a blog to your business.

Speaker:

So for you in terms of upping the game,

Speaker:

what I love to see you do is think about key

Speaker:

words that your customers would search for to find you.

Speaker:

So when you're thinking about realtors and you're thinking about event

Speaker:

planners, what key words,

Speaker:

like event planners conference in Myrtle beach,

Speaker:

like those types of words,

Speaker:

and start creating blog content around what they are looking for

Speaker:

you and your blog content is great.

Speaker:

Like a lot of the articles,

Speaker:

all of that,

Speaker:

but I think you can enhance what you're already doing by

Speaker:

adding in those keywords,

Speaker:

in the title in the first couple of paragraphs of copy.

Speaker:

Now, not keyword stuffing.

Speaker:

So keyword stuffing is when you take all these keywords,

Speaker:

you try and merge them together and they don't even sound

Speaker:

like a human is even writing it.

Speaker:

That will get you dinged in Google.

Speaker:

They don't like that.

Speaker:

But if you put more words,

Speaker:

if you think about it,

Speaker:

when Google's searching to pull up an answer to somebody's question,

Speaker:

if you have those words in your copy,

Speaker:

then your articles are going to show up higher.

Speaker:

So a takeaway and a more concrete way of saying this

Speaker:

you're already blogging.

Speaker:

So you're good to go with that.

Speaker:

It's in your plan.

Speaker:

Just think like realtors,

Speaker:

what types of questions might they be asking?

Speaker:

Where what I do can help serve that referral business,

Speaker:

right? Walking into the house for the first time,

Speaker:

naked, the experience special.

Speaker:

So they'll refer you or come back to you for their

Speaker:

next house.

Speaker:

What are the things from a realtor's point of view is

Speaker:

important to them.

Speaker:

That is a service you can provide.

Speaker:

Okay. And write articles about that.

Speaker:

And if you're not sure,

Speaker:

put in those Google words and see what articles are coming

Speaker:

up, put in realtor,

Speaker:

referral, like all that.

Speaker:

And then you'll start to see different types of topics that

Speaker:

are coming up.

Speaker:

And you just because an article has been written about it

Speaker:

already doesn't mean you can't write it with your own spin.

Speaker:

Okay. So then event planners,

Speaker:

same thing Events.

Speaker:

Also a lot of events now are online.

Speaker:

They're not,

Speaker:

face-to-face still.

Speaker:

And I think that's going to continue.

Speaker:

Probably we've seen how it can work.

Speaker:

So that'll continue going.

Speaker:

If you provide the service of being able to mail things

Speaker:

to people,

Speaker:

for events that could be a whole article unto itself,

Speaker:

there to offsite.

Speaker:

I don't know what the keywords would be for that.

Speaker:

So I'm not going to try and guess I don't want

Speaker:

to lead you astray in the wrong way without looking,

Speaker:

but I would continue your blogging.

Speaker:

I think that's amazing.

Speaker:

And just tweak it a little bit.

Speaker:

So the topics are then applicable to the people,

Speaker:

to who will find you.

Speaker:

Okay. Okay.

Speaker:

How does all that sound?

Speaker:

So I've given you three things here,

Speaker:

let me summarize them first,

Speaker:

your cover image,

Speaker:

you know,

Speaker:

that very first image that comes up.

Speaker:

Just tweak that up a little bit,

Speaker:

add in an about page,

Speaker:

by the way.

Speaker:

Do you know that the,

Speaker:

about pages,

Speaker:

the most read page on any website,

Speaker:

apart from the homepage?

Speaker:

Yeah, I did hear that somewhere.

Speaker:

I'm not sure where,

Speaker:

and I have,

Speaker:

I don't know if the video is on the,

Speaker:

about page or not,

Speaker:

but I have a video,

Speaker:

but I can't recall if it's on the about page.

Speaker:

Yeah. I didn't run into it when I looked and so

Speaker:

on. I spent a little bit of time,

Speaker:

obviously in preparation for our talk today.

Speaker:

So if I couldn't find it,

Speaker:

others couldn't find it.

Speaker:

But a video of you talking would be amazing,

Speaker:

but some people aren't in a position where they can turn

Speaker:

on the audio.

Speaker:

So I would also write something.

Speaker:

Okay. So those two that's 0.2

Speaker:

and number three is what we just covered with your blog.

Speaker:

Yes. So that's three things,

Speaker:

concrete things that you could do that I think will improve

Speaker:

your website,

Speaker:

attract more people over there.

Speaker:

Number one,

Speaker:

because of the keywords and then keep them there to look

Speaker:

and see what you're doing.

Speaker:

And then your calls are going to increase.

Speaker:

Awesome. Okay.

Speaker:

How does that sound?

Speaker:

This sounds fantastic.

Speaker:

Which of those three are you going to do first?

Speaker:

Gloria? Easiest one first.

Speaker:

And besides the picture,

Speaker:

but then I am definitely going to work on that about

Speaker:

page, making it more personal.

Speaker:

Good. None of these are hard because those two are just

Speaker:

things to do.

Speaker:

And then the third one you're already doing,

Speaker:

it's just a tweak in how you're doing it.

Speaker:

So there you go.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So for everybody who's listening,

Speaker:

who's now going to go hold you accountable because they're going

Speaker:

to come to the page at some point.

Speaker:

Where would people go to see your website At King's gift

Speaker:

baskets.com? Wonderful.
